New! Electronic Features Expand Access

For the busy professional, learning must often take place “on the go.” By offering new formats and learning packages, PSAP increases the ways you can access this material and fit it into your time management planning.

PSAP has always provided the most recent evidence-based information on a focused therapeutic area. PSAP releases are now provided as online PDFs that incorporate the latest electronic features, enhancing their “anytime, anywhere” access with direct links to original data sources.

  • Intra-document links: Go directly from the table of contents to an individual learning module, a specific chapter topic, or a section heading.
  • Authority links: Information relating to current guidelines, online tools, or agency resources includes live links to these official sources.
  • Reference links: The PSAP chapter text is now fully referenced, with direct links to PubMed, the Cochrane Database, and other compilers so you can access the original sources of this information.
  • Where appropriate, some chapters contain multi-media elements (audio, video) illustrating patient-care concepts important to the topic.
  • Practice Points summarize chapter content and provide take-home messages.
Pick the Format to Fit Your Lifestyle

Online Books: The principal PSAP release is an online book, provided as downloadable PDFs that can be saved to the desktop or printed. Graphics have four-color capability. The latest version of Adobe Reader (available free) offers functionality such as highlighting or adding “sticky notes” to the PSAP text. Intra-document and external links provide immediate access to the information you want and need. On the PSAP release date, online book purchases are automatically added to your “My Account” page on the ACCP Web site.

Print Package: Add a print version of each PSAP release to your Online Book! Delivered to your door, this 1-color softbound book offers all the text, graphics, and self-assessment questions but not the electronic functionality available in the Online Book.

E-Media Package: Enhance your Online Book purchase with this e-reader version of the text, graphics, and SAQs. The package includes file types compatible with all popular e-readers and tablets including the Apple iPad family of products, Barnes & Noble Nook family of products, Amazon Kindle and Kindle Fire family of products, Sony and Kobo e-readers, Android tablets, and more. The E-Media Package also includes the popular PSAP Audio Companion, MP3 recordings of the chapter text that can be loaded onto an audio player, smart phone, or tablet, or burned onto an audio CD.

All-Format Package: Purchasers of this product receive all available format options of PSAP - the Online Book, the Print Package, and the E-Media Package.

More Information

Information to Improve Your Practice

The clinical updates provided in PSAP can be used immediately to provide quality patient care and improve patient outcomes. Each release contains peer-reviewed chapters packed with current, relevant information on a specific therapeutic area. Each chapter includes updates on critical pharmacotherapy, in-text references to the latest research, and graphic features designed to help integrate this information directly into clinical practice.

  • Algorithms provide a ready framework to assist in clinical decision making.
  • Tables and boxes summarize concepts and allow ready comparison of data.
  • Patient Care Scenario boxes illustrate treatment choices for a common patient presentation.
  • Pivotal Study That May Change Practice provides detailed information on a new landmark trial.
  • Practice Points summarize chapter content and provide take-home messages.
Aids Enhance Content Mastery

The 2013-2015 PSAP releases include many new features designed to promote assimilation of this important information.

  • Baseline Knowledge Statements outline the foundational topic information presumed on the part of the reader and not contained in the chapter.
  • Additional Readings cite open-source materials that can maximize learning by providing baseline information on the topic.
  • Reference values for a wide range of common laboratory tests are provided in a convenient back-of-the-book table.
  • Multimedia elements (audio/video) enchance learning in some chapters.

Self-assessment of the material is by case-based multiple-choice questions that test application of the material using patient care scenarios. Online answers are a vital component of the learning process and include a detailed rationale for each self-assessment question with additional direct links to electronic references that support and further explain optimal decision-making. Program Goals and Target Audience

PSAP is a series of continuing education activities that provide pertinent pharmacotherapeutic updates with an emphasis on quality patient care. Each PSAP release presents the latest information on a specific topic, with content drawn from the Board of Pharmacy Specialties (BPS) outline for the Board Certified Pharmacotherapy Specialist (BCPS). This allows pharmacists to develop and assess their knowledge in the science and application of pharmacotherapy and to enhance their educational competence in this specialty.

Each PSAP release has new, evidence-based content that can be integrated into structured training programs or assist advanced-level practitioners in maintaining their clinical competence. PSAP has been approved by BPS as an acceptable professional development activity for BCPS recertification.

PSAP 2013-2015 Series Editors

Leading the series are coeditors John E. Murphy, Pharm.D., FCCP, FASHP, Professor of Pharmacy Practice and Science and Associate Dean for Academic and Professional Affairs, the University of Arizona College of Pharmacy, Tucson, Arizona; and Mary Wun-Len Lee, Pharm.D., FCCP, BCPS, Vice President and Chief Academic Officer, Pharmacy and Health Sciences Education, Midwestern University, and Professor of Pharmacy Practice, Midwestern University, Chicago College of Pharmacy, Downers Grove, Illinois.

Continuing Pharmacy Education Credit
ACPE

The American College of Clinical Pharmacy is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education (ACPE) as a provider of continuing pharmacy education. The number of continuing pharmacy education contact hours earned for successfully completing a posttest varies with each PSAP module. The ACPE-approved continuing pharmacy education credit associated with each PSAP module is available for 3 years after the date of release. All PSAP releases are application-based activities.

BCPS Recertification by Continuing Education

Subscribers seeking board certified pharmacotherapy specialist (BCPS) recertification credit from a PSAP module must submit the posttest within 4 months after the release of the book. Refer to the first page of each release for the deadline to submit posttests for BCPS recertification credit.

Posttests submitted for BCPS recertification credit are processed within 60 days of the published test deadline. Only completed posttests are eligible for credit. The passing point for BCPS recertification credit is based on a statistical analysis of the posttest results for each module. Credits earned by passing the posttest are forwarded to BPS.

This six-book PSAP series is designed to provide sufficient opportunity for the 120 continuing pharmacy education credits needed for recertification as a BCPS.

ACPE Continuing Pharmacy Education Credit

To receive ACPE continuing pharmacy education credit for a PSAP module, the posttest must be completed online and submitted for scoring. ACPE continuing pharmacy education credit is awarded for posttest scores of 50% or greater. Answers to the self-assessment questions, with detailed rationale and supporting references, are made available online to subscribers after the close of the BCPS testing period.

WAIVER

To receive detailed answers to PSAP questions without submitting a posttest, go to “My Account” on the ACCP Web site, select the module you wish to waive, and click the “waive credit” link. You will receive a link to view the self-assessment question answers, along with detailed rationale and supporting references. By completing this process, you waive the opportunity to receive continuing pharmacy education credit for that PSAP module.
