Program Goals and Target Audience

PSAP is the premier home study tool for the pharmacotherapy specialist. This series of continuing education activities provides subscribers with pertinent pharmacotherapeutic updates with an emphasis on quality patient care. Neither a textbook nor an overall review, each book in the PSAP-VII series presents the latest information on a specific topic. This allows pharmacists to develop and assess their knowledge in the science and application of pharmacotherapy and to enhance their educational competence in this specialty, with an emphasis on providing quality pharmaceutical care.

The new, previously unpublished material in each PSAP print and online book can be integrated into structured training programs or assist advanced-level practitioners in maintaining their clinical competence. The Board of Pharmaceutical Specialties (BPS) has approved previous editions of PSAP as an acceptable professional development program for Board Certified Pharmacotherapy Specialist (BCPS) recertification; ACCP will seek similar approval for PSAP-VII.

Each Book Is Packed with Information

The clinical updates provided in PSAP-VII can be used immediately to provide quality patient care and improve patient outcomes. As a self-paced home study program, PSAP facilitates optimal enhancement of clinical skills while keeping you informed of current therapeutic opinions and updated standards of practice.

PSAP-VII covers 15 therapeutic areas in a series of 11 home-study books. Each book contains peer-reviewed chapters packed with current, relevant information on a specific therapeutic area. Each chapter includes updates on critical pharmacotherapy, baseline resources to bring you up to speed on the topic, an annotated bibliography and additional resources for further study, and multiple-choice self-assessment questions written in case-study format. Online answers with a detailed rationale for each self-assessment question include links to electronic references that provide more information on treatment decisions.

New Features for PSAP-VII
  • Separate books covering Pediatrics and Geriatrics
  • Chapters with valuable practice-based information on non-clinical topics such as health promotion and maintenance
  • A new Baseline Review Resources box in each chapter with suggested readings for background information on the topic.
  • An updated table of contents and reader-friendly design and typography to help the reader move through the material more easily.
  • Improved online testing with easier test access, user-generated credit reports, and e-mail notification of test submission.
  • Clickable links in the explained answers that lead directly to research articles with added information on clinical decision-making.

As with the previous edition, PSAP-VII books feature shorter chapters focusing on the latest information; expanded annotated bibliographies; and online testing. Subscribers can choose to receive books in print or online format, or a combination of both. Tests are taken at the CE Center on the ACCP Web site. Answer books are available online as PDFs after participants complete the post test or submit a waiver form.

Continuing Pharmacy Education Credit
ACPE

The American College of Clinical Pharmacy is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education (ACPE) as a provider of continuing pharmacy education. The number of continuing pharmacy education contact hours earned for successfully completing the PSAP post test varies with each book. ACPE continuing pharmacy education credit for each PSAP-VII book is available for 3 years after the date of release.

ACPE

To receive ACPE continuing pharmacy education credit for a PSAP-VII module, the post test for that module must be completed online and submitted for scoring through ACCP's CE Center. Continuing pharmacy education credit is awarded for test scores of 50% or greater. The answers to each ACPE post test are made available as PDFs 3 business days after the close of the BCPS testing period (the 3 months after a book is released). After submitting a PSAP-VII post test in the CE Center, you will be able to see your test with the correct and incorrect answers identified and a PDF file with the questions, correct answers, and explanations for that test. Statements of continuing education credit are available for printing immediately through the CE Center, with the exception of the BCPS testing period (the 3 months after a book is released).

WAIVER

To receive detailed answers to PSAP-VII questions without submitting a continuing education test, log in at CE Center, click on the PSAP book, and follow the waiver instructions. By completing the waiver for a post test, you waive the opportunity to receive continuing education credit for that module. Explained answers will be made available immediately as PDFs, with the exception of waivers submitted during the BCPS testing period (3 months after the book release date).

BCPS

To be eligible for board certified pharmacotherapy specialist (BCPS) recertification credit, you must submit the PSAP-VII post test within the 3-month period after the release of the book. Refer to the first page of each print and online book for the deadline to submit online tests for BCPS recertification credit.

The answers to each BCPS post test are made available in electronic format 3 business days after the close of the BCPS testing period. After this date, log in at the CE Center and click on the PSAP book and test you submitted. You will see your test with the correct and incorrect answers identified, and a link to a PDF file with the questions, correct answers, and explanations for that test. Tests submitted for BCPS recertification credit will be processed and results may be downloaded within 60 days of the close of the testing period. Only completed tests are eligible for credit; no partial or incomplete tests will be processed. The passing point for BCPS recertification credit is based on a statistical analysis of the test results for each book. If you receive a passing score, that information will be forwarded to BPS and added to your online report of continuing pharmacy education credits for you to print out.

PSAP-VII Online

PSAP books are also available in the online format as PDFs. Online books are identical in content to the print version, with a number of digital enhancements including searchable text, hyperlinked bookmarks, and anytime/anywhere access. The electronic testing for online subscribers is identical to that for print subscribers. Purchasers of an online PSAP book receive e-mail confirmation and instructions on how to log in a set up a password to enter CE Center and start using the PSAP book.
