CNS/Pharmacy Practice

Advances in the pharmacotherapy of neurologic and psychiatric diseases—including better diagnostic tools and new therapeutic interventions, both pharmacologic and nonpharmacologic—have resulted in innovative approaches to managing these diseases. In addition, changes in pharmacy practice are opening new areas and expanding current roles for pharmacists. These topics are the subject of CNS/Pharmacy Practice, the latest release from ACCP’s popular Pharmacotherapy Self-Assessment Program (PSAP).

CNS/Pharmacy Practice comprises four learning modules that offer 28.0 continuing pharmacy education (CPE) credits. The content and CPE credits offered by each module are as follows:

  • Module 1: Pharmacy Practice (6.5 CPE hours)
Topics covered in this module are adverse drug reactions, health coaching, and bioterrorism.
  • Module 2: Central Nervous System I (6.5 CPE hours)
CNS topics covered in this module include headache, chronic pain, and prescription drug abuse.
  • Module 3: Central Nervous System II (7.0 CPE hours)
CNS topics covered in this module are sleep disorders, schizophrenia, and autism spectrum disorder.
  • Module 4: Central Nervous System III (8.0 CPE hours)
CNS topics covered in this module include neurorehabilitation, multiple sclerosis, and movement disorders.

PSAP chapters, which are fully referenced, include online links to literature compilers such as PubMed. Hypertext links provide ready access to clinical practice guidelines, official recommendations, and patient assessment tools. Graphic features focus on pivotal studies, patient care scenarios, and take-home points that can readily be integrated into clinical practice. Multimedia elements include instructional videos and MP3 audio files.

Released July 15, 2015, CNS/Pharmacy Practice offers Board Certified Pharmacotherapy Specialists (BCPSs) the opportunity to earn specialty recertification credit until November 16, 2015. More information on CNS/Pharmacy Practice is available at http://www.accp.com/bookstore/p15b2.aspx.
