8:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m. Controversies in Critical Care Nephrology
Developed by the Critical Care PRN and Nephrology PRN

The Critical Care PRN and Nephrology PRN have teamed up to present this full day program. Faculty will examine the evidence for assessment of renal function, methods for preventing renal dysfunction, renal support, and hepatorenal syndrome. Participants will understand the complex interactions between the renal system and other organ systems and how renal support impacts these interactions. Discussions will also include evidence-based approaches for preventing and managing acute renal failure in critically ill patients. Lunch is provided with this program.

The Research Primer is a full day program designed to provide participants with an introduction to fundamental research concepts. Faculty will discuss working within research teams, scientific writing, developing a research question, and other facets of research careers. This program is the required prerequisite for the Certificate Program and will stimulate the development of a longitudinal research project idea by participants.

8:00 a.m. – 5:30 p.m. Basic Training for New Clinical Faculty and Preceptors

Highly interactive, this full-day workshop will address the needs of new clinical faculty and preceptors to help them thrive in the academic community. Participants will review the basic concepts related to current pedagogical theory and practice as they pertain to pharmacy education and practice. The program is designed to help faculty and preceptors develop basic strategies for planning, implementing, and assessing educational experiences structured to achieve clearly defined student outcomes within didactic and clinical settings. Discussions will include clarifying one’s own purposes, goals, and philosophy for teaching, and identify strategies for continued self-learning.

12:00 p.m. – 5:00 p.m. Current Topics in Ambulatory Cardiology
Developed by the Ambulatory Care PRN and Cardiology PRN

This half-day program is presented by members of the Cardiology PRN and the Ambulatory Care PRN. Faculty will identify methods that result in greater reductions in blood pressure, and discuss current recommendations for anticoagulation based on the 2008 Chest Guidelines. Current controversies and advances in therapeutics plans for Heart failure, LDL and HDL cholesterol, diabetes mellitus, coronary artery disease will also be discussed.

1:00 p.m. – 4:30 p.m. Off and Running to a Specialty Career
For students only

Join other student pharmacists for a half-day program exploring the concept of specialization within clinical pharmacy and the variety of available career opportunities. This program provides students the opportunity to interact with faculty who are all directly engaged in specialized practice careers. Included in the discussions will be the role of residency training, board certification, and advanced degrees in specialty pharmacy practice. Learn more about the many potential career paths available to those who pursue specialty practice. This program is included with student meeting registration.

4:45 p.m. – 5:45 p.m. Newcomers Orientation

New members and first-time meeting attendees are invited to attend the Newcomers Orientation to the Annual Meeting. This informal session provides participants with an overview of meeting activities, how to take advantage of the full meeting schedule, and how your participation in the meeting and in ACCP can work to advance your career. The Orientation will be followed by the Newcomers Reception, allowing participants the opportunity to network with other first-time attendees and new members, as well as officers and leaders of the ACCP organization.
