8:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. Clinical Practice Primer

This full day program is the required, prerequisite course for participants in the ACCP Academy Clinical Practice Advancement Certificate Program. The development of a personal strategic plan for your advancement as a clinician will lay the framework for this core program. Faculty will examine how to justify the value of your clinical activities, how to facilitate your own professional development, and more. Participants will engage in discussions on how roles can be established in team and collaborative patient care environments. Components of a successful clinical practice will be reviewed.

8:00 a.m. – 5:30 p.m. Basic Training for New Clinical Faculty and Preceptors

Highly interactive, this full-day workshop will address the needs of new clinical faculty and preceptors to help them thrive in the academic community. Participants will review the basic concepts related to current pedagogical theory and practice as they pertain to pharmacy education and practice. The program is designed to help faculty and preceptors develop basic strategies for planning, implementing, and assessing educational experiences structured to achieve clearly defined student outcomes within didactic and clinical settings. Discussions will include clarifying one’s own purposes, goals, and philosophy for teaching, and identify strategies for continued self-learning.

1:00 p.m. – 5:00 p.m. Basics of Clinical Research

This half-day program reviews study designs for clinical/translational research, health services research, and educational research. Participants will learn the steps involved in writing successful research proposals, identifying sources for funding, and navigating the grant review process. In addition, experienced faculty will offer practical advice for the novice researcher. As much as possible, attendees will be asked to refer to their own project ideas as a platform for discussion and exploration.

4:00 p.m. – 4:45 p.m. Newcomers Orientation

New members and first-time meeting attendees are invited to attend the Newcomers Orientation to the Annual Meeting. This informal session provides participants with an overview of meeting activities, how to take advantage of the full meeting schedule, and how your participation in the meeting and in ACCP can work to advance your career. The Orientation will be followed by the Newcomers Reception, allowing participants the opportunity to network with other first-time attendees and new members, as well as officers and leaders of the ACCP organization.
