Associate Deans School of Pharmacy, College of Medicine University of South Florida USF Health
The School of Pharmacy at USF Health College of Medicine invites applications and nominations to fill two newly created Associate Dean positions. The Associate Dean for Academic and Clinical Affairs will provide leadership in developing and implementing the USF School of Pharmacy within the USF system as part of a system campus. The Associate Dean for Faculty Affairs will provide leadership in developing and implementing faculty recruitment, relations, and development for the USF School of Pharmacy. Both Associate Deans will report directly to the Dean of the School of Pharmacy and will be major contributors to the senior management team of this newly developing school as it prepares for provisional accreditation. The Associate Deans will assist in pre-candidate application activities for review by ACPE and will help with infrastructure development for the USF School of Pharmacy. Minimum qualifications include an earned doctorate in a pharmacy-related instructional or research discipline, with qualifications and accomplishments sufficient to qualify for appointment at the rank of Associate Professor/Professor with a concurrent tenure-accruing appointment in an academic department of the School. A minimum of 5 years’ experience as a faculty member in an academic setting, together with a strong history of teaching, scholarly, and professional achievement, is required. Appointment at the rank of Associate Professor/Professor typically requires 5 years of continuous and productive service at the rank of Assistant/Associate Professor. If a candidate holds a Pharm.D. degree, he/she must have or be eligible for Florida Licensure. Preferred qualifications include: - Significant administrative experience and responsibility in the dean’s office of an ACPE-accredited college with demonstrated commitment to excellence and innovation
- Excellent interpersonal skills, superior oral and written communication skills, and flexibility in responding to the changing demands of academic health centers
- Experience with academic program development and governance experience within academic systems
- Demonstrated leadership abilities and qualities that reflect a thorough understanding of the needs and concerns of academic faculty and student services
- Demonstrated ability to work collegially in a multidisciplinary setting with various constituents including students, scholars, and professionals from across the health professions and within a university system
- Demonstrated leadership competencies and commitment to diversity
- Proven ability to be creative and innovative while decisive and politically sophisticated
Essential functions include: - Assist with infrastructure development for the USF School of Pharmacy.
- Manage and provide oversight for recruitment of charter faculty.
- Exemplify and promote excellence in teaching, scholarship, and clinical practice.
- Effort may be dedicated to activities that align with the successful incumbent’s professional discipline (clinical or basic science activities).
Associate Dean for Academic and Clinical Affairs functions include: - Serve as chief liaison – University of South Florida Academic Committees (including USF Health).
- Assume responsibility for professional, regional (SACS), and state accreditation standards/reporting.
- Provide curriculum oversight.
- Oversee clinical affairs – site/affiliation liaison, quality control officer.
- Budget and manage fiscal resources that support academic missions.
- Serve as university liaison – policies, procedures, and guidelines.
- Serve as chief officer for academic effort reporting and assessment.
Associate Dean for Faculty Affairs functions include: - Integrate faculty assignment and evaluation with USF Health procedures.
- Budget and manage fiscal resources that support faculty missions.
- Provide faculty governance liaison.
- Initiate faculty development initiatives.
- Support and manage faculty recruitment, development, promotion, counseling of faculty grievances, and other faculty personnel management.
- Create an infrastructure for supporting the development of academic leaders, and increase educationally related scholarship by educators.
