ACCP to Purchase New Headquarters Property
After residing in leased office space for its entire history, ACCP will purchase a property and move its headquarters to a new suburban Kansas City location, about 10 miles from its current offices. After careful delibration, in the summer of 2005 the ACCP Board of Regents reached the decision to pursue the purchase of a property within the Kansas City Metropolitan Area that would be suitable to house ACCP headquarters. In January 2006, several properties were presented for Board consideration, and the final decision to make the purchase was made this spring.

Director, Government and Professional Affairs
Taking Our Advocacy to the Next Level
The 109th Congress has adjourned until mid-November, and many observers would suggest that this has occurred none too soon. On November 7, the midterm election process will identify which of the 435 current members of the U.S. House of Representatives and which of 34 members of the Senate currently up for re-election will be returned to office for 2007–08. The issues driving the voters' decisions will be both diverse and divisive, including the war in Iraq, immigration policy, the U.S. economy and government budget deficits, the continuing challenges of rising health care costs and declining access to care, and Congressional ethics and performance (or lack thereof) to name just a few. Many analysts are predicting that the House of Representatives will move from Republican to Democratic control, with the Senate likely to move toward an almost exact 50–50 split between the two parties.

Research Institute Provides More than $500K in 2006 Grant Support
The ACCP Research Institute recently announced the recipients of its 2006 Investigator Development Research Awards and its Infectious Diseases Fellowship. Recipients of the 2006 Frontiers Career Development Research Awards had been announced previously in July (accp.com/report/rpt0706/art03.php).
Fellowships provide stipend support for an intensive research training experience for a developing clinical pharmaceutical scientist. The Investigator Development Research Awards provide $20,000 to support specific research projects by new or developing investigators. This is the third year that the Research Institute has been able to offer its Frontiers Career Development Research Awards. Supported by generous contributions to the Frontiers Fund by many College members, several of the PRNs, ACCP, and others, these grants support clinical, translational, or pharmacy-related health services (practice) research in areas of unmet need.
