Series Overview

From Theory to Bedside: Clinical Reasoning Series is one component of the professional development program developed by ACCP and approved by the Board of Pharmacy Specialties (BPS) for the recertification of the Board Certified Pharmacotherapy Specialist (BCPS).

This education series explores cutting-edge, contemporary therapeutic topics, and demonstrates scientifically sound clinical reasoning and decision-making. It provides participants with learning exercises designed to advance their skills and abilities to critically evaluate scientific evidence and clinical trials and to effectively incorporate into daily practice significant findings that lead to effective and safe patient care.

Program Content

“Health Care-Associated Infections” provides an overview of contemporary strategies for the optimal management of pneumonia, surgical site infections, and gastrointestinal infections. Sessions detail and apply evidence that help inform individual patient care and practices that reduce hospitalizations and costs associated with these infections.

Target Audience and Objectives

The target audience for this program is clinical pharmacists and BCPSs seeking recertification credit by continuing education.

At the conclusion of the program, the participant should be able to:

  1. Effectively apply pharmacokinetic and pharmacodynamic properties of select antimicrobial agents for the optimal management of pneumonia, surgical site, and gastrointestinal infections.
  2. Develop evidence informed, individualized plans for optimal prevention and management of pneumonia, surgical site, and gastrointestinal infections.
  3. Employ antimicrobial stewardship strategies to optimize management, decrease hospitalization, and minimize cost associated with pneumonia, surgical site infections, and gastrointestinal infections.

Continuing Pharmacy Education Credit

ACPE

The American College of Clinical Pharmacy is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education (ACPE) as a provider of continuing pharmacy education. This is an application-based activity; Activity Number: 0217-0000-14-096-H01-P.

To earn continuing pharmacy education credit and to receive your continuing pharmacy education statement of credit for this activity, participants must successfully complete a Web-based posttest by October 11, 2017. Partial credit is not available for this activity.

BCPS Recertification Credit

To be eligible for 6.0 CPE hours of recertification credit, BCPSs must successfully complete a Web-based posttest by November 30, 2014. Partial credit is not available for this activity. ACCP, as the official provider approved by BPS, will record and report recertification credit earned for this activity directly to BPS.
