ACCP National StuNet Advisory Committee Applications Due June 30, 2008
Are you interested in becoming more involved with the American College of Clinical Pharmacy?
Student members who want to develop leadership skills, expand opportunities for student pharmacists within ACCP, and introduce other students to the many facets of clinical pharmacy, are encouraged to apply for appointment to the 2008-2009 National StuNet Advisory Committee.
The National StuNet Advisory Committee is a standing committee composed of members appointed each year by the ACCP President. Members will generally serve a one year term and the committee will typically be composed of 8-12 members. The leadership of the committee is also appointed by the ACCP President.
Leadership positions include:
- Chair (1 year term)
- Vice Chair (2 year term; serves first year as Vice Chair and then assumes Chair position in the second year)
- Secretary (1 year term)
The committee meets twice yearly in person at the colleges national meetings and communicates via conference call and e-mail to complete its assigned charges. Students appointed to the Advisory Committee will receive a complimentary student meeting registration to attend the 2008 Annual Meeting and the 2009 ACCP/ESCP International Congress.
Students interested in serving on the 2008-2009 ACCP National StuNet Committee, either as a member-at-large or in a leadership role, may apply for appointment.
I have really enjoyed being on the ACCP StuNet Committee this year as it has provided me with the opportunity to understand the mission and focus of the organization, network and collaborate with students from around the country, and gain greater insight and exposure to the vast array of opportunities in clinical pharmacy. This was not my first experience serving in a national or regional leadership capacity, but it was certainly one of my best. The ACCP staff and other student leaders on StuNet worked tirelessly to develop student membership and benefits throughout the year. I am glad I am able to share in the accomplishments of this group and contribute to the services of the StuNet and ACCP organization.

The greatest advantage of serving on a national level is the opportunity to network with students from across the country who are equally passionate about clinical pharmacy. It was a good experience to learn to work together in achieving our goals this year. I have developed a better understanding of teamwork through being on the committee. I highly recommend becoming involved, whether locally or nationally, as a means to advancing our clinical practice.

Being part of the StuNet Advisory Committee has been a very enriching experience in both professional and personal development for me. I enjoyed contributing to the behind-the-scene work for ACCP and to help give inputs from students perspective so we can tailor to what students need. I also worked with students from all over the country and shared their talents and expertise on developing projects and future programs that will benefit all student members.
As the Secretary, I acted as a link between the StuNet Advisory Committee and the Board of Regents. I was responsible for recording meeting minutes, compiling meeting notes, and submitting reports to the Board of Regents. Networking with fellow student pharmacists and clinical pharmacists was a bonus to being the Secretary on the committee. This was a wonderful leadership opportunity that helped strengthen my skills and interest in becoming an academic and clinical pharmacist.

The StuNet advisory committee has helped me get an inside look at what ACCP is all about and has introduced me to other motivated pharmacy students from across the country. The committee has helped me to think more about what it means to be a student professional through interactions with the leaders of ACCP. I think the committee has the potential to bring together student members of ACCP and to help spread the word about the various resources offered by ACCP to students and I would recommend it highly to anyone interested in applying.

"Opportunities for students involved in ACCP are constantly expanding. Services
provided by the website are a great resource, and the knowledge gained from
reading Pharmacotherapy, following the PRN networks, and attending national
meetings helps prepare students for a successful career in clinical pharmacy."
