Program Overview
From Theory to Bedside: Clinical Reasoning Series is one component of the professional development program developed by ACCP and approved by the Board of Pharmacy Specialties (BPS) for the continuing education of clinical pharmacists and Board Certified Pharmacotherapy Specialist (BCPS).
This education series explores cutting-edge, contemporary therapeutic topics, and demonstrates scientifically sound clinical reasoning and decision-making. It provides participants with active learning exercises designed to advance their skills and abilities to critically evaluate scientific evidence and clinical trials and to effectively incorporate into daily practice significant findings that lead to effective and safe patient care.
Pain, Agitation, and Delirium in the Intensive Care Unit” provides an overview of contemporary strategies for the assessment and optimal management of pain, agitation, and delirium that help inform patient care decisions.

Continuing Pharmacy Education Credit
The American College of Clinical Pharmacy is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education (ACPE) as a provider of continuing pharmacy education. This is an application-based activity; Activity Number: 0217-0000-13-110-H01-P.
To earn continuing pharmacy education credit and to receive your continuing pharmacy education statement of credit for this activity, participants must successfully complete a Web-based posttest by October 12, 2016. Partial credit is not available for this activity.
Statements of continuing education credit are available at CPE Monitor within 3 business days of successful completion of the posttest.
BCPS Continuing Education Credit
To be eligible for 6.0 CPE hours of recertification credit, BCPSs must successfully complete a Web-based posttest by November 30, 2013. Partial credit is not available for this activity.

Target Audience and Overall Program Objectives
The target audience for this program is clinical pharmacists and BCPSs seeking continuing education credit.
At the conclusion of the program, the participant should be able to:
- Compare and contrast the various agents and strategies used in the management of pain, agitation, and delirium (PAD) in the intensive care unit (ICU).
- Use validated scales to assess, monitor, and optimize the management of PAD in the ICU.
- Incorporate screening tools to recognize delirium in the ICU.
- Develop an evidence-based plan for the optimal management of PAD in the ICU.
- Incorporate pharmacoeconomic principles to guide patient care decisions.
- Apply 2013 PAD guideline recommendations to clinical practice.
