Pharmacy Practice Research Fellow

Position Description
The Center for Pharmacy Practice Research is pleased to announce the search for the first Pharmacy Practice Research Fellow. This Fellowship is a post Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD) training opportunity at the Washington State University College of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences. Designed to assist the Fellow in becoming specialized in the area of pharmacy practice research, the program provides opportunities to engage in community practice research and gain teaching experience. This is a two-year fellowship program completed at the WSU College of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences. The goal of the Fellowship is to train the Fellow with the skills necessary for a career in pharmacy research or pharmacy practice. Prior research and teaching experience are encouraged but not required.

The Fellow will be directly involved in grant-funded research projects under the direct mentorship of Dr. Kimberly McKeirnan. Research activities such as project idea development, IRB submission, data collection, and data analysis will be part of the Fellow’s scope of work. The Fellow will have the opportunity to present his/her research at local and/or national meetings, with research activities culminating in manuscript submission(s).

The Fellow will also be involved in teaching. Opportunities may include but will not be limited to:
• Developing and facilitating labs, lectures, and in-class activities
• Evaluating immunization administration technique skills and other hands-on patient care skills
• Facilitating, leading, and evaluating patient care simulations
• Creating patient cases and educational vignettes demonstrating clinical community pharmacist skills

The Fellow must be a graduate of a college of pharmacy accredited by the American Council of Pharmaceutical Education (ACPE), must be licensed or eligible for licensure in the State of Washington, and successfully complete a background check. A validated Doctor of Pharmacy degree is required. The Fellow will complete licensure requirements no later than September 1, 2018. The applicant must meet all the requirements for employment at Washington State University and meet the professional requirements of the Department of Pharmacotherapy. In addition, the Fellow must possess excellent verbal and written communication skills. The successful candidate will demonstrate professionalism and strong leadership capabilities. The preferred start date is July 1, 2018, but may vary depending on availability and preference.
