Position Description
Arkansas Children’s Hospital has opened a new facility in Northwest Arkansas; one of the fastest growing and most dynamic regions in America. We are seeking motivated pharmacists to be a part of this transformative and innovative team dedicated to champion care close to home. Arkansas Children’s Northwest provides pediatric care with a 24 bed inpatient unit, 5 OR suites, outpatient infusion room and an Emergency Department.

Positions Duties:
1. Evaluation of patient medication orders
• Verifies appropriateness of all doses in reference to the child’s diagnosis, weight, age and body surface area.
• Identifies and intervenes when problems involving drug therapy arise eg. allergies, drug interactions, therapeutic
duplications, adverse drug reactions etc.
• Verifies appropriateness of drug selected, initiates drug therapy when needed and suggests equally efficacious but less
expensive therapy.
• Evaluates need for all non-formulary drugs.

2. Processing and preparation of patient medications
• Complies with all departmental policies and procedures and promotes compliance in others.
• Makes recommendations for improvements by suggestions for changes or additions to policies and procedures.
• Assures that patients receive the ordered medication as to dose, route, salt, regimen and generic substitution.
• Assures that all medications meet the highest standards in quality and preparation of the final dosage form.
• Assures that all drug products are neatly prepared and labeled, including the use of appropriate auxiliary labels.
• Processes all orders efficient, correctly establishes priorities.
• Processes orders in a timely manner.
• Completes work before leaving and assists others.

3. Professional development and Leadership
• Participates in on-going self education activities.
• Publishes in professional journals.
• Meets all department and regulatory standards.
• Presents at a local or national meeting, or makes a formal presentation to pharmacy personnel or other health
• Participates in some form of approved community service promoting ACH or the practice of pharmacy.
• Supervises technical and support staff to promote efficient daily work flow.
• Completes all peer reviews as requested for pharmacists and support staff.
• Serves liaison areas by providing in-services, educational materials, completing clinic or station checks thoroughly and
timely , including follow up and resolution of any problems.
• Participates in projects to develop new services, improve current services, enhance productivity or increase efficiency.
• Makes recommendations as to how methods and procedures can be improved.

4. Clinical and educational services to patients and other health care providers
• Performs drug information activities, processing all information requests accurately, efficiently and completing the
• Assists in drug utilization review activities.
• Reviews patients and assesses for compliance with ACH criteria concerning food drug interactions and therapeutic drug
• Participates in the education and training of patients, technicians, pharmacists and students.
• Serves as a teacher and participates in discharge planning.
• Serves in a professional capacity in patient care areas.
• Monitors patients to assure optimal therapeutic outcomes and makes appropriate recommendations to other health care

Position Qualifications:
1. Bachelor of Science in Pharmacy and/or Doctor of Pharmacy degree
2. Possess Arkansas Pharmacist License at time of hire

1. Acute care pharmacy experience or has successfully completed a Post Graduate-Year 1 accredited pharmacy practice residency
