Description: The University of Nebraska Medical Center (UNMC) College of Pharmacy invites applications for a new 12-month, tenure leading faculty position in the area of Infectious Diseases at the rank of assistant, associate, or full professor in the Department of Pharmacy Practice (DPP). The purpose of this new faculty position is to add expertise, build strength and synergize with existing faculty in the fields of HIV and tuberculosis (TB) research.

The successful applicant will have a demonstrated or emerging track record in clinical science, translational science or pharmacometrics. They will be expected to work with other faculty within the College and UNMC to create an independent externally funded research program. In addition, the applicant should have a strong commitment to professional and graduate education and advancing the profession of pharmacy. Contribution to a clinical practice site is possible, but not required. The position will support the profession, College of Pharmacy, Nebraska Medicine, and Department through service to committees and professional organizations.

About UNMC: The Department of Pharmacy Practice is one of two departments in the College; it consists of 32 tenure-leading and clinical faculty members and over 400 adjunct faculty members. Areas of research emphasis in the Department include clinical and experimental therapeutics and pharmacology. The Department has particular strength in HIV/TB pharmacology with a critical mass of NIH funded principal investigators. Other areas of research strength in the College include: drug delivery, nanomedicine, drug discovery, pharmacokinetics, molecular biology, and pharmaceutical biophysics. There are 57 students in the Pharmaceutical Sciences Graduate Program, which includes a new Clinical Pharmaceutical Science Track led by DPP faculty, and approximately 60 students per Pharm.D. class.

The College of Pharmacy is a dynamic, rapidly growing unit on a strong health sciences campus. Upon celebrating 100 years of excellence in pharmaceutical education and research, the College is entering a new and exciting phase of growth and development. In early 2016, the College moved into a new building, the UNMC Center for Drug Discovery and Lozier Center for Pharmacy Sciences and Education. The College is positioned to recruit new faculty members to enhance its nationally renowned programs in basic, translational, and clinical research, education and clinical practice. Total research funding for the College in the current year exceeds $11 million; NIH funding is $10 million and the College ranks in the top 10 of all US colleges of pharmacy in NIH funding, and has ranked in the top 10 in terms of NIH funding per faculty member for the last 9 years.

Excellent opportunities exist to establish collaborations with faculty of the UNMC Department of Pharmaceutical Sciences, College of Medicine, and Nebraska Medicine. This includes programs with established pre-clinical models, companion animal clinical trials, and human subjects research to optimize drug therapies in the area of Infectious Diseases. Faculty also have access to the many Centers, Institutes, and core facilities on campus. A broad array of shared resources are available across the UNMC campus and nearby to support basic, translational and clinical research.

Qualifications: Ideal candidates will possess a PharmD and/or PhD, have existing extramural funding or, if junior, have strong potential to obtain funding, a commitment to teaching excellence at the professional and graduate levels, and a history of innovative, interdisciplinary, and collaborative research interactions. Excellent written and verbal communication skills are required. The faculty member will report directly to the Chair of the Department of Pharmacy Practice and be provided with a competitive salary and start up package.
