Position Description
The Pharmacy Services Oncology Specialist Coordinator shall provide high level oversight of Ballad Health's daily oncology pharmacy operations and is expected to standardize and contribute to projects that are focused on improving the service efficiency, drug utilization, and patient outcomes within the inpatient hospital setting and in the ambulatory setting of Ballad's oncology infusion centers. This individual shall possess the personal characteristics necessary for successfully fulfilling his/her responsibilities, to include flexibility, attention to detail, initiative, cooperation, and a commitment to continuing education to upgrade his/her skills in a constantly developing profession. He/she should be knowledgeable about oncology drug therapies and evidence-based protocols, monitoring of oncology and adjunctive therapies, the rationale and processes for accreditation and the need for participation in the maintenance of continuous service readiness to include the ongoing analysis of USP 795, 797, and 800 certification criteria, pharmacogenomics as it pertains to oncology therapies and potential drug interactions, oncology drug information resources to include information retrieval and interpretation, medication use evaluation; adverse drug reaction reporting and evaluation; oncology disease state management; and formulary management. Responsibilities shall include the planning, coordination, and/or implementation and provision of oncology pharmacy services and programs. He/she should be able to provide information and education about oncology medication therapy in both formal and informal settings to healthcare providers as well as students, patients and families. He/She should manifest good communication and interactive skills, a positive outcome/results orientation and the ability to work collaboratively with nursing and physician leaders and/or multidisciplinary teams, as well as the ability to work independently. He/she shall demonstrate leadership qualities and routinely serve as a role model, both intra and interdepartmentally

Scope of Practice will include:
* Updating evidence-based protocols in order sets
* In-service education on guideline revisions and new drugs
* Integrating the use of technology to ensure optimal utilization of staff.
* Developing, documenting and monitoring Oncology QA initiatives/staff competencies.
* Committee involvement (oncology subcommittee, P&T, Tumor Board (or equivalent)

It is vital that an individual in this position be capable of good communication skills. It is of the utmost importance that written communication is legible.

Reporting Relationship:
​This position reports to the Corporate Clinical Pharmacy Coordinator

Education and Experience:
​The Pharmacy Services Oncology Specialist Coordinator must be a graduate of a college of pharmacy accredited by the American Council for Pharmaceutical Education and hold current licensure in the state Tennessee +/- Virginia. An advanced pharmacy degree with a PGY-1 and PGY-2 in Oncology, or comparable experience with Board Certification in Oncology shall be required. Education and training should include capabilities/competencies to provide oncology pharmaceutical care for patients of all age groups.

This individual shall possess good communication skills and analytical and leadership abilities. He/She must demonstrate the ability to work closely with physicians, nurses and other health care professionals in a multidisciplinary setting.
