Drug Information Clinical Specialist

Come join the Wesley Team as a Drug Information Specialist! Wesley Medical Center is looking for an enthusiastic and energetic pharmacist to fill our open Drug Information and Formulary Management Clinical Specialist position. Wesley is an acute-care center located in Wichita, KS. We are an HCA facility licensed for 760 beds and 102 bassinets. We have a strong clinical program with pharmacists providing patient care 3 shifts a day, 7 days a week. We currently have nearly 30 clinical specialists, 7 PGY1 pharmacy practice residents, and 1 PGY2 critical care resident on staff. The Wesley Medical Center Pharmacy Department is a forward-looking department with some of the most advanced automation technology in the country. We have set ambitious goals for the department, and we strive to bring clinical pharmacy practice to every patient, every time.

The position offers the opportunity to:
• Answer drug information requests from physicians, nurses, pharmacists, and other members of the healthcare team
• Be actively involved in the P&T Committee, Antibiotic Sub-Committee, and Committee for Safe Medication Practice
• Maintain our medication formulary through ongoing class reviews, new formulary additions, and formulary deletions
• Evaluate non-formulary drug usage trends and resolve non-formulary drug issues as they arise
• Coordinate with the pharmacy buyer to manage drug shortages
• Participate in medication use evaluation
• Update and maintain medication use policies
• Maintain departmental databases including the online formulary and extemporaneous formulations
• Coordinate publication of the P&T Committee/Committee for Safe Medication Practices newsletter
• Develop order sets for use in our CPOE system
• Conduct and publish clinical research
• Precept PGY1 Pharmacy Practice residents as part of a required drug information rotation
• Precept pharmacy students from the University of Kansas, Creighton University, and others for drug information and/or formulary management rotations
• Participate in creation of staff development programs and education in coordination with other clinical specialists
• Provide didactic lectures to medical staff, residents, interns, pharmacy students, nursing students, and/or members of the community

The ideal candidate will have thorough knowledge of critically evaluated published clinical trials, pharmacoeconomic data and the medical literature, is able to proactively prioritize needs and effectively manage resources, and is able to establish and maintain long-term customer relationships, building trust and respect by consistently meeting and exceeding expectations.

Requirements: A PharmD is required for this position as well a current Pharmacist license in the state in which the Pharmacist resides. Completion of a Hospital Pharmacy Residency training (PGY1) or 3 years of hospital clinical pharmacy experience is required. Completion of a Drug Information Specialty Residency Training (PGY2) or experience as a Drug Information Specialist is preferred.
