Position Description
The pharmacy department at Mercy Health- St. Vincent Medical Center (MHSVMC) is searching for a well-trained and highly motivated pharmacist to join our team to provide services to a diverse group of patients with a focus on perioperative care. MHSVMC is the critical care regional referral and teaching center within the Mercy system, a faith-based system serving Northwest Ohio and surrounding areas. The institution is a Level I Trauma Center for adults and Level II Trauma Center for pediatrics, with an accredited Chest Pain Center and a Comprehensive Stroke Center. The mission statement of MHSVMC is to extend the healing ministry of Jesus by improving the health of our communities with emphasis on people who are poor and under-served.

MHSVMC Inpatient Department of Pharmacy Services provides clinical and distributive services 24 hours a day, seven days a week. This includes a satellite pharmacy location, open from 6:30 am – 2:30 pm Monday through Friday, within the 20-bed Main Surgery Department. The Surgery Department provides a wide variety of patient care services to adult and pediatric patients.

The Perioperative Pharmacist will be responsible for providing patient care within the Surgery area. An objective of the role is to further develop clinical pharmacy services within this practice setting. To accomplish this, medication distribution via automation can be optimized and an interdisciplinary practice relationship can be developed with Surgery and Anesthesia staff members. Responsibilities of this role include: order verification, medication distribution, providing drug information, making recommendations to promote appropriate medication use, antimicrobial stewardship, and code response. This pharmacist will also serve as a preceptor for pharmacy students, PGY-1, and PGY-2 Critical Care pharmacy residents. Additional responsibilities include active participation in multidisciplinary hospital committees, policy or protocol development, and medication use evaluations.

Preferred credentials of applicants: Ohio pharmacist license eligibility, Doctor of Pharmacy degree, PGY-1 residency or equivalent experience, ACLS certification, Board Certification in Pharmacotherapy or other area.
