PGY-2 Advanced Residency in Pain Management

Position Description
The Advanced Residency in Pain Management at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center (CSMC) is designed to provide the resident with in-depth clinical pharmacy training and experience in managing patients with acute and chronic pain through the continuum of care. Over the last few years, CSMC Pharmacy Services has worked directly with multiple key physicians and committees to build an Opioid Stewardship area of focus that includes enhanced recovery after surgery (ERAS) protocols, multimodal pain regimens, and opioid transitions of care that has shown to reduce costly readmissions and improve patient satisfaction and outcomes. We are also actively engaged in research to demonstrate the value of pharmacists in this essential aspect of patient care.
The length of the residency program is one year from the start date. Experiences and areas of focus include the following and can be tailored to the resident’s knowledge, skills and interests:
• Round with Inpatient Pain Service and provide direct patient care to optimize pain management therapy
• Participation in and coordination of interdisciplinary opioid stewardship initiatives across the organization
• Collaboration with hospitalist and general internal medicine for patient with high daily morphine milligram equivalence (MME)
• Participation in research and outcomes initiatives
• Precept PGY1 residents and students
• Involvement in Epic based platform to optimize opioid stewardship informatic needs
• Participation in Medical Staff Committees and Interdisciplinary Committees
The structure of the program will include rotations as wells as longitudinal experiences. Key pharmacy leaders involved in Opioid Stewardship and the Physician Chair of Medication Management Safety Committee serves as the residency program guidance mentors. The resident will assume staffing and clinical responsibilities approximately four days a month.
