Position Description
Samford University’s McWhorter School of Pharmacy invites individuals interested in serving in a Christian university environment to apply for the position of assistant dean for curricular innovation and professional development. This full-time,tenure track position is a 12-month appointment. The faculty member will be responsible for leading implementation of a new innovative curriculum and related faculty professional development. In addition to administrative activities, the faculty member is expected to provide teaching, scholarship of teaching and learning, and service to the profession.

Candidates must possess a terminal degree in a discipline appropriate to teach pharmacy ina Doctor of Pharmacy program (i.e., Doctor of Pharmacy or Doctor of Philosophy in a field such as pharmacology or medicinal chemistry).An additional doctorate or master’s degree in education (e.g., Ed.D.) or instructional technology is preferred. Preference will be given to those with administrative experience in academic affairs. Academic rank and salary are dependent upon qualifications, previous teaching involvement, and research and scholarship accomplishments.

The successful individual must exhibit effective verbal and written communication skills, interpersonal skills,time management and organization skills, and attention to detail.The candidate must also embrace the interprofessional teaching model of the College of Health Sciences and student-centered teaching of the McWhorter School of Pharmacy.

The College of Health Sciences includes four schools: Ida Moffett School of Nursing, McWhorter School of Pharmacy, School of Health Professions,and School of Public Health. The college offers multiple degree programs and majors within the health sciences with an interprofessional education focus that reflects today’s team approach to healthcare delivery and professional practice.
