Position Description
As a member of the pharmacy leadership team, the Director of the Pharmacy Nutrition Support Programs is responsible for assisting the Chief Pharmacy Officer and Associate Chief Pharmacy Officers plan, organize and provide nutrition support pharmacy programs across the continuum of care for both adult and pediatric patients.

Nutrition support pharmacy programs address the care of patients who receive specialized nutrition support, including parenteral and enteral nutrition. The nutrition support pharmacist has responsibility for promoting maintenance and/or restoration of optimal nutritional status, designing and modifying treatment according to the needs of the patient. The nutrition support pharmacist has responsibility for direct patient care and often functions as a member of a multidisciplinary nutrition support team.

Duties and Responsibilities of this Level

Clinical leadership for pharmacy nutrition support programs
Maintains outstanding skills as nutrition support clinical pharmacy practitioner
Maintains a clinical practice
Chairs the Pharmacy Nutrition Support Council
Represents the department to the Duke Hospital Nutrition Support Service
Collaborates effectively with leaders and staff members from other nutrition support disciplines to achieve DUH and DUHS Nutrition Support Service goals
Works with peers to achieve departmental goals
Leads staff development projects (design, implementation, measuring impact)
Plans, designs, implements and demonstrates the value of pharmacy services
Suggests performance improvement plans and assists with implementation
Maintain interface with medical and nursing staff to provide regular information.
Assists with recruitment efforts for excellent new employees for the department
Contributes to performance evaluations of staff
Participates with student and resident education
Provides educational lectures (Duke, State/Local, National)
Takes responsibility for personal and professional growth
Maintains familiarity with all departmental programs
Ensure compliance with all regulatory practice standards.

Preferred Experience:

Five or more years of experience as a pharmacist practicing in nutrition support. Completion of a pharmacy residency preferred.
