International Symposium Tackles Clinical Pharmacist Services and Outcomes on Patient Care Services

The 2017 ACCP International Symposium titled “Optimizing Safe and Effective Care to Patients Across Health Systems: Focus on Clinical Pharmacist Services and Outcomes” will tackle key challenges faced in health systems and discuss pharmacist services that improve patient access to quality care.

Particular focus will be placed on successful pharmacist services developed to optimize the use of antimicrobial and antithrombotic agents across various practice settings in health systems. In addition, scenarios highlighting the role of clinical pharmacists in addressing critical issues in oncology, pediatrics, and critical care services will be discussed. A session dedicated to identifying performance measures to evaluate the clinical pharmacist will conclude the day’s activities.

Sessions to be offered are as follows:

  • Patient Care and Medication Safety in Health Systems: An Overview
  • Antimicrobial Therapy in Health Systems: Challenges and Opportunities
  • Clinical Pharmacist Services That Ensure Rational Use of Antimicrobial Agents
  • Antithrombotic Therapy in Health Systems: Challenges and Opportunities
  • Pharmacist-Led Antithrombosis Services
  • Practice Scenarios with Implications for Clinical Pharmacist Services: Focus on Oncology, Pediatrics, and Critical Care Services
  • Ensuring Competence: Evaluating the Clinical Pharmacist

Pharmacists, clinical coordinators, health care administrators, and other stakeholders seeking to expand clinical pharmacy services across health systems and improve the outcomes of such services will find the symposium’s activities of value in strategically advancing the scope and quality of services provided at their home institutions.

Expert faculty will engage the participants in reflecting on local issues and institutional practices, discuss successful clinical pharmacy services that address particular health care needs, and outline metrics to evaluate outcomes associated with pharmacists’ clinical services.

Participants will be eligible to earn 6.0 hours of application-based, continuing pharmacy education and certificates of attendance. A detailed description of the symposium, including the target audience, faculty, agenda, learning objectives, and requirements for continuing education credit and certificates of attendance, is available at www.accp.com/docs/international/2017ACCPInternationalSymposium_DubaiOct2017_GCC.pdf.
