Available for 1.50 hours of CPE creditActivity Number: 0217-0000-24-120-L01-PActivity Type: An Application-Based ActivityA majority of adult ICU admissions are categorized into several common conditions including respiratory failure, myocardial ischemia, stroke, and sepsis. The pharmacist in the ICU also provides care for special populations and those with rare disease states that can be devastating if not diagnosed and managed appropriately. Therapeutics in these settings can be highly specialized and require the pharmacist to develop customized treatment plans for individual patients.
This program looks to highlight several of these populations from respective experts in the therapeutics area when providing care for the critically ill obstetrics population, patients with acute life-threatening immunologic disorders, and those with acute oncologic emergencies. Experts will characterize the general process used to guide therapeutic decision making in these groups and review core diseases states or considerations within each population.
Learning Objectives1. Interpret key factors when caring for a critically ill patient infrequently encountered in an ICU setting.
2. Examine the key pharmacokinetic and pharmacodynamics alterations in critically ill pregnant patients.
3. Construct a therapeutic plan for the management of pregnancy related acute conditions.
4. Compose a treatment plan for management of an autoimmune disorder in a critically ill patient.
5. Evaluate the efficacy and safety of a therapeutic plan designed for treatment of an autoimmune condition.
6. Analyze a critically ill patient with an oncologic emergency for severity of the condition.
7. Formulate an evidence-based pharmacotherapy plan for oncologic emergencies.
