BCACP Clinical Session: The Beat Goes On: Updates in Atrial Fibrillation Guidelines

Monday, October 14, 2024 from 1:45 PM to 3:45 PM MST at Convention Center North Building / Meeting Room 121

Available for 2.00 hours of CPE credit
Activity Number: 0217-9999-24-070-L01-P
Activity Type: An Application-Based Activity

This presentation on the 2023 atrial fibrillation (AF) guidelines will provide clinical pharmacists with an up-to-date understanding of the latest guidance on the management of patients with atrial fibrillation. Atrial fibrillation poses a significant challenge due to its association with increased stroke risk, heart failure, and other cardiovascular complications.

There have been some notable changes to these guidelines compared to the previously established 2014 guidelines with updates in 2019. This presentation will ensure pharmacists are equipped with the latest evidence-based strategies for optimal patient care. These updated guidelines include the “Top 10 Take-Home Messages.” This presentation will highlight the most relevant information for ambulatory care clinicians, specifically the new classification stages of AF, the importance of early rhythm control, thromboembolism prevention, catheter ablation moving to a class 1 indication even before medication therapy in select patients, and risk factor modification and prevention.

This activity is approved for Board Certified Ambulatory Care Pharmacist (BCACP) recertification credit.

The BCACP Clinical Sessions are part of the professional development program for the recertification of board-certified Ambulatory Care pharmacists by the Board of Pharmacy Specialties and jointly provided by ACCP and the American Society of Health-System Pharmacists (ASHP). In order to earn the BCACP recertification credit, participants must attend the session, claim the continuing pharmacy education credit, and pass the associated posttest. Access to the Clinical Sessions posttests will be available on December 18, 2024, at www.accp.com/myaccount to anyone who has purchased access to the BCACP posttests. For participants who have not purchased access to the posttest, access can be purchased until 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday, October 15, at the ACCP Registration Desk. The deadline to submit posttests for these sessions will be December 16, 2025.
