Available for 1.50 hours of CPE creditActivity Number: 0217-0000-24-118-L04-PActivity Type: A Knowledge-Based ActivityKey Performance Indicators (KPIs) are measurable and quantifiable metrics that are used to track progress toward specific goals. Unfortunately, KPIs vary greatly between healthcare systems and are viewed as a necessary evil. The Clinical Administration PRN Programming Committee presents a session that will have participants look beyond the numbers and see how collected data can be used to make a positive change in pharmacy practice. Specific topics include: (1) a review of current metrics commonly reported by pharmacies, (2) an examination of additional metrics that can be measured to expand pharmacy practice, (3) a discussion of how benchmarking can be utilized as a means of justification or change to the C-suite, and (4) shared examples where use of metrics has changed pharmacy practice in a panel discussion. The target audience for this session is pharmacy leadership, such as administration, management, and clinical coordinators; however, general information will be provided that can be useful for practitioners who are looking to expand their administrative knowledge.
Learning Objectives1. Define key performance indicators (KPI) as they pertain to pharmacy management.
2. Review historical use of KPI in pharmacy practice.
3. Describe how to use metrics when presenting to the C-Suite.
4. List new ways that metrics can be used.
5. Describe the national approach to KPIs in pharmacy practice.
6. Discuss application of metrics to the real-world practice.
