Available for 1.50 hours of CPE creditActivity Number: 0217-0000-24-122-L99Activity Type: A Knowledge-Based ActivityThe Education and Training PRN Educational Programming Committee presents an informative evidence-based session focused on Entrustable Professional Activities (EPAs) and their role within experiential education. EPAs describe core pharmacy workplace activities that all students should be entrusted to do in the experiential setting with direct or distant supervision that preceptors assess using a level of entrustment scale. While EPAs were first conceptualized during 2015-2016, integration within experiential curricula is still developing and is a need for schools and colleges of pharmacy, as well as preceptors to begin to fully implement. In this session, speakers from both academia and practice will lead the audience in a review of EPAs, including their relation to experiential training, as well as practical uses within introductory and advanced pharmacy practice experiences.
Learning Objectives1. Discuss the historical evolution and application of Entrustable Professional Activities (EPAs) in experiential education.
2. Describe the implications of the 2022 AACP Curriculum Outcomes and Entrustable Professional Activities (COEPA) on current educational practices.
3. Review EPA implementation for introductory and advanced pharmacy practice experiences (IPPEs and APPEs).
4. Explain the role of EPAs in competency-based assessment of pharmacist students.
5. Recognize the successes and challenges of academic pharmacists who have incorporated EPAs into IPPEs and APPEs.
6. Outline student-centered applications of EPAs for experiential education in the future.
