Biography

Brian K. Irons, Pharm.D., FCCP, BCACP

Dr. Brian K. Irons is a professor with the Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center (TTUHSC) School of Pharmacy and had served as the Division Head of Ambulatory Care from 2005-2019. He received his B.S. in pharmacy and Pharm.D. degrees from the University of Wisconsin and his B.S. degree in biology from the University of Wisconsin–Stevens Point. He completed a pharmacy practice residency at United Hospital in St. Paul, Minnesota, and a specialty residency in managed care/ambulatory care at the TTUHSC School of Pharmacy. He was a board-certified pharmacotherapy specialist in 2000-2014, is a board-certified ambulatory care pharmacist (2011-present), and held certification in advanced diabetes management from 2010 to 2017. Dr. Irons's practice on the Lubbock campus optimizes patient care for various disease states, including diabetes, hypertension, dyslipidemia, and anticoagulation, through pharmacist-physician collaborative drug therapy management in the TTUHSC Department of Internal Medicine. He was named as a Fellow of ACCP in 2011. He is a past chair of ACCP’s Ambulatory Care PRN and formally served as its secretary. He is a past chair and secretary/treasurer of the Endocrine and Metabolism PRN. Dr. Irons has served as a faculty member for the American College of Clinical Pharmacy Updates in Therapeutics®: The Pharmacotherapy Preparatory Review Course since 2010.
