Personalized Experiential Learning – “A Focus on the Preceptor and the Student”

ACCP Academy

Thursday, March 14, 2019
2:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. (CST)

Overview/Description:

This program will highlight strategies preceptors can use to identify and enhance individual preceptor skills and introduce creative ways to better connect with their individual learners during a rotation experience. The program will be based on the assumption that “no one student and no one preceptor is the same”, thus personalizing the learning experience is critical. By integrating these strategies into your daily practice you can potentially reduce the challenging learning situations that are commonly faced in the experiential setting.

Objectives:

1. Define the concept of critical self-reflection and how it can benefit a preceptor and student’s learning experience.
2. Identify strategies preceptors can use to better understand their individual teaching habits and how they may effect a student’s approach to learning.
3. Describe the Pharmacist Inventory of Learning Styles (PILS) and how it can be best utilized during experiential rotations.
