Call for Abstracts: National Academies Future of Pharmacy Poster Session

January 28, 2025

A planning committee of the National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine (The National Academies) has organized a public workshop, Innovations in Pharmacy Training and Practice To Advance Patient Care, on May 29-30, 2025. The workshop will examine recent trends in the field of pharmacy and consider strategies for improving the pharmacy workforce to advance patient care and outcomes. The workshop is designed to address:

  • Ways to enhance the pharmacy workforce, eliminate pharmacy deserts, and reduce health disparities in rural, suburban, and urban areas.
  • Strategies to create collaborative care environments that reduce clinician burnout and enable pharmacists to train and work in a safe and supportive environment
  • Programs in which pharmacists have expanded roles in health care delivery.
  • Next generation training programs that could prepare pharmacists for expanded roles beyond direct patient care.

The workshop will be held at the National Academies' Keck Center in Washington, DC.

ABSTRACT SUBMISSIONS ARE INVITED FOR IN-PERSON POSTER PRESENTATIONS ON MAY 29, 2025.  DUE DATE: MARCH 10, 2025.

Instructions

All submissions should be framed around “the future of pharmacy” within one of the following five pillars:

  1. Meeting the health-related needs of individual patients and populations;
  2. Developing a workforce that resembles the population it serves;
  3. Attracting potential pharmacy students into the profession that emphasizes next generation training programs;
  4. Creating a financially stable workforce, for direct patient care and beyond, that is resilient to dynamic system changes, adaptable for the unpredictable, and is Future Proof;
  5. Prioritizing the well-being of the pharmacy workforce by creating policies to mitigate burnout (a key component of the quintuple aim of high-quality health care).
