PRN Business Meetings and Networking Forums at the Annual Meeting in Louisville

Networking is essential to a successful career, and there are few better ways to network than with ACCP’s Practice and Research Networks during their Business Meetings and Networking Forums. All meeting attendees are encouraged to attend these reception-style gatherings. This is a particularly good opportunity for those early in their clinical pharmacy careers. Don’t pass up these events!

Monday, October 20, 2008
6:00 p.m. – 9:00 p.m.

Adult Medicine – Ballrooms IX and X
During this Adult Medicine Networking Forum and Business Meeting, current and prospective members will meet and discuss their practice interests. There will be socialization (with a networking activity), followed by the PRN Business Meeting.

Cardiology – Ballrooms III and IV
Join the Cardiology PRN Business Meeting, followed by an informal reception, which will allow networking among new and old members, members collaborating on PRNrelated projects, and trainees looking for job opportunities. Paul Nolan will be highlighting his experiences regarding anticoagulation issues and ventricular assist devices, and Mona Fiuzat from ARCA Discovery will be updating the PRN regarding the latest research and development behind bucindolol before the PRN Business Meeting.

Clinical Administration – Ballroom VIII
Anyone interested in issues related to clinical leadership and practice management is cordially invited to join this PRN Business Meeting. There will be ample time to network and discuss issues related to clinical administration. Several PRN members will make brief, informal presentations on relevant topics. There will also be a Clinical Administration Business Meeting to plan future PRN activities, including programming. Refreshments will be provided.

Drug Information – Rose
Join the Business Meeting for the Drug Information PRN with an opportunity to meet the officers and members of the PRN. Current activities of the PRN will be discussed as well as any additional items the members bring to the meeting. A 30- to 45-minute presentation will follow the meeting.

Education and Training – Ballrooms I and II
Clinical faculty from around the country will provide practice interviews for students getting ready to apply for jobs or residencies and for residents and fellows getting ready to apply for their first career positions. Supported by a grant from Walgreens.

Emergency Medicine – Skybox
The Business Meeting will include welcoming statements to current/new/prospective members from the Emergency Medicine Chair. The offices required by the PRN, 2009 Annual Meeting planning, and goals and direction of the PRN will be among the items discussed. Hors d’oeuvres and beverages will be provided.

Endocrine and Metabolism – Thoroughbred and Filly
The Endocrine and Metabolism PRN will be holding a Networking Forum to elicit both membership and scholarship. A presentation as well as a discussion of PRN business will take place.

Geriatrics – Ballroom VII
Join the Geriatrics PRN Business Meeting to enjoy light hors d’oeuvres and socialize with colleagues. Current activities within the PRN will be discussed, and an update of the PRN opinion paper on “Appropriate Methods to Dose Medications Based upon Renal Function in the Older Adult” will be presented. All meeting attendees are welcome to join us.

Health Outcomes – Kentucky Ballrooms A and B
Join members of the Health Outcomes PRN for our Business Meeting and Networking Reception. Nonmembers interested in the measurement of Health Outcomes are encouraged to attend. After the Business Meeting, we will discuss upcoming programming and activities including the development of a “Resident and Preceptor Research Resource Module.” Hors d’oeuvres and beverages will be provided.

Infectious Diseases – Ballroom VI
Join members of the Infectious Diseases PRN for an informal networking/socializing event, with welcoming statements to current/new/prospective members from the Infectious Diseases PRN Chair, a brief summary of presentations of Infectious Diseases PRN initiatives, and a formal presentation of mini-sabbaticals. Supported by a grant from Cubist Pharmaceuticals.

Pediatrics – Bluegrass
During the Networking Forum and Business Meeting, current and prospective members will discuss and share practice experiences. The Business Meeting will include an update on activities and initiatives of the PRN as well as opportunities for involvement with the Pediatrics PRN.

Women’s Health – Kentucky Ballrooms C and D
The Women’s Health PRN will hold its Networking Forum for both current and prospective members. The Business Meeting will include an update on activities and initiatives of the PRN as well as opportunities to be involved with the PRN. Light hors d’oeuvres and beverages will be provided.

Ambulatory Care – Kentucky Ballrooms F and G
A 2-hour meeting composed of a business component and a networking component will be conducted. The purpose of the Business Meeting is to disseminate information regarding the past and future activities of each PRN committee, current activities of ACCP related specifically to the PRN, and potential future activities of the PRN. The business component will also have a presentation to highlight an innovative practice within Ambulatory Care. The networking component will encourage interaction and networking among members through entertaining activities.

Central Nervous System – Kentucky Ballroom C
Interested attendees are invited to join the Business Meeting and Networking Forum. Before the networking session begins, invited speakers will give a brief overview of their recently published or presented research. Light hors d’oeuvres and beverages will be provided.

Critical Care – Bluegrass
Join the PRN Networking Forum and liaise with colleagues while you enjoy hors d’oeuvres. Presentations will include a summary of PRN activities, reports from PRN officers, and the Resident/Fellow Research Travel Award.

GI/Liver/Nutrition – Skybox
Interested attendees are invited to join this PRN for its Business Meeting and Networking Forum. Highlights include platform presentations from students, residents, fellows, and faculty actively engaged in research projects focused on the areas of gastroenterology, hepatology, and clinical nutrition. Food and beverages will be provided.

Hematology/Oncology – Kentucky Ballrooms A and B
A Business Meeting will be conducted covering both old and new PRN business, followed by networking activities.

Immunology and Transplantation – Kentucky Ballroom D
Current and prospective members are welcome to join our Networking Forum and Business Meeting. The Business Meeting will consist of installing new officers, discussing current and future PRN initiatives, and honoring the recipient of our PRN Resident/Fellow Travel Award. The meeting will conclude with a debate by transplant specialty residents regarding a current issue in transplantation.

Nephrology – Rose
The focus of this meeting will be new biomarkers for bone and mineral metabolism disorders and a focus on fibroblast growth factors.

Pain and Palliative Care – Grandstand
The Pain and Palliative Care PRN will once again meet to network with fellow PRN members and to hear several presentations by current residents in Pain and Palliative Care training programs from across the country. There will a presentation titled “Practical Considerations of Equianalgesic Opioid Dose Conversions,” which will be worth 1 contact hour of continuing education credit. In addition, there will be time for current and prospective members to meet and greet and to share ideas and practice insights. All meeting attendees including residents and preceptors are welcome.

Pharmaceutical Industry – Filly and Thoroughbred
Members and interested meeting attendees are welcome to attend our Business Meeting and Networking Forum. Past and future PRN activities will be discussed, including 2008–2009 Strategic Planning Working Group updates and focus session highlights. Hors d’oeuvres and beverages will be provided.

Pharmacokinetics/Pharmacodynamics – Clubhouse
This will be a Networking Forum for PRN members and guests to discuss issues in pharmacokinetics and pharmacodynamics. The recipient of the M. Kelli Jordan Travel Award will provide a presentation on his or her research. In addition, time will be allocated for members to discuss potential topics for PRN symposia at upcoming ACCP meetings. The meeting will include presentations by current pharmacokinetics/pharmacodynamics residents and fellows in addition to a discussion of research posters presented at the meeting.
