We thank the many PRN members who have encouraged students to consider professional membership in ACCP. During the past 18 months, the number of ACCP student members has nearly doubled, in large part because of your efforts at your local campuses.

Student Travel Awards Program

The Student Travel Awards Program was initiated in 2006 to support and encourage student attendance at ACCP national meetings and expand opportunities for students throughout the organization. ACCP offers travel stipends and/or complimentary meeting registrations to help defray the costs students incur when traveling to attend an ACCP national meeting. Student Travel Awards are administered through the ACCP Research Institute and are funded by the Student Travel Awards Fund. Since the award program was instituted, ACCP has awarded 37 travel stipends and more than 100 complimentary meeting registrations to its student members.

2008–2009 ACCP National StuNet Advisory Committee Members Appointed

Earlier this year, ACCP issued a call for applications to student members interested in serving on the National StuNet Advisory Committee. The College received applications from students at 22 different institutions. After a review of their applications, student members were selected for appointment by ACCP President-Elect, John Murphy, Pharm.D., BCPS, FCCP.

The 2008–2009 ACCP National StuNet Advisory Committee will meet at the upcoming Annual Meeting in Louisville, Kentucky, as well as at the 2009 ACCP-ESCP International Congress held in conjunction with the Pharmacotherapy Preparatory Course in Orlando, Florida. The newly impaneled committee will serve in an advisory capacity to the Board of Regents and the College’s membership staff to develop and update student programs and initiatives consistent with ACCP’s vision for the future of clinical pharmacy practice. Please join us in congratulating these ACCP student members on receiving this appointment.

Clinical Career Profiles

ACCP is pleased to announce a new online initiative highlighting the many unique and varied career opportunities that exist within clinical pharmacy. ACCP Clinical Career Profiles is a new Web-based program designed to provide our student members an opportunity to discover the many career paths that await them as future practitioners.

As students begin to explore the world of clinical pharmacy, they can access individual member profiles. Each Clinical Career Profile provides an overview of the member’s education and training, a description of his/her career path, and a summary of current roles and responsibilities. Students can search the profile database by specialty and/or interest area at http://www.accp.com/stunet/profiles.aspx.

ACCP Announces the Return of the College’s Popular Online Curriculum Vitae Program

Last fall marked the debut of ACCP’s innovative Online Curriculum Vitae Review Program. The program is an exclusive service offered to student members as a means to facilitate their curriculum vitae (CV) preparation. ACCP is pleased to offer once again this important benefit to its student members.

As the clinical pharmacy profession continues to see increases in demand for residency positions and in competition for first-rate jobs, it is vital that each student have an effective CV. A well-written CV creates a positive image for future selection committees or employers and distinguishes an individual from the rest of the crowd. As questions have arisen in preparing a CV, our student members have found a review by a seasoned professional extremely valuable.

Beginning September 29, ACCP student members may submit their CV online as a Microsoft Word document and have it randomly assigned to a volunteer ACCP member reviewer. The ACCP reviewer will provide his/her comments and/or edits using the track changes feature in Microsoft Word. Students will receive an e-mail containing feedback from a reviewer within 14 business days.

Student members are also encouraged to take advantage of ACCP’s other Web-based resources. Students can learn the basics of CV formatting, view example student CVs, and access valuable “curriculum vitae pearls,” which provide practical insights in developing a CV.
