ACCP Updates in Therapeutics 2011: A Newly Refocused Spring Meeting

Beginning in 2011, ACCP’s spring meeting will have a new name and a new focus. The name will change from Spring Practice and Research Forum to Updates in Therapeutics. The meeting’s focus will change to emphasize preparation for specialty certification and curricular-based professional development through ACCP’s Academy. The refocused meeting will offer expanded opportunities for specialty certification review, optimized scheduling for Academy programming, and new networking opportunities for all registrants.

Updates in Therapeutics 2011 will be held April 8-12, 2011, in Columbus, Ohio. Registration for the meeting will open in late October.

Ambulatory Care Pharmacy Review Course to Launch

Also new at the 2011 meeting will be the introduction of ACCP’s Ambulatory Care Pharmacy Preparatory Review Course, designed to help pharmacists prepare for the specialty certification examination in ambulatory care pharmacy. The new course will be presented in conjunction with the well-known Pharmacotherapy Preparatory Review Course. The Ambulatory Care Pharmacy course will adopt the highly effective instructional methods employed in the Pharmacotherapy course and will feature case-based instruction by nationally recognized faculty.

Concentrated Academy Programming

Another major component in the meeting schedule for Updates in Therapeutics is required and elective programming offered by the ACCP Academy. The new meeting schedule incorporates programming from each Academy track according to the established course schedule for each track. Each track will concentrate its programming over a 2-day period, as indicated below, to help participants save on travel time and expense.

  • Research and Scholarship: April 8–9, 2011
  • Leadership and Management: April 8–9, 2011
  • Teaching and Learning: April 10–11, 2011
  • Clinical Practice Advancement: April 10–11, 2011

The Academy curricular schedule through 2013 is available at www.accp.com/academy.

PRN Focus Sessions, Business Meetings to Move to Annual Meeting

Most focus sessions—PRN-developed educational activities—will now be presented exclusively during ACCP’s Annual Meeting. However, a limited number of educational slots will remain available for PRNs wishing to deliver programming during Updates in Therapeutics.

The PRN-hosted business meetings and networking forums, like the PRN focus sessions, will now be offered almost exclusively at the Annual Meeting. A limited number of evening slots will remain available on a space-available, first-come, first-served basis for PRNs wishing to conduct an evening business meeting during Updates in Therapeutics.

All-Attendee Networking Breakfasts

Each morning during Updates in Therapeutics, attendees will be invited to attend a complimentary Networking Breakfast hosted by ACCP. PRNs will have the opportunity to reserve a table at the breakfasts to network with current and prospective members.

ACCP Annual Meeting to Encompass Former Spring Forum Activities

The ACCP Annual Meeting will now become the exclusive venue for some scientific and educational activities that were formerly presented at the spring meeting. Student programming and activities such as the new ACCP Clinical Pharmacy Challenge competition will be presented at the Annual Meeting. Live scientific poster and platform presentations and curricular and non-curricular programming also will be presented only at the Annual Meeting. Most PRN educational sessions as well as business meetings and networking forums will be held at the fall Annual Meeting.

Registration Opens in October 2010
