PRN Report

PRNs to Host Business Meeting and Networking Forums at the 2010 Annual Meeting

ACCP’s practice and research networks (PRNs) provide a focal point for clinical pharmacists with common interests and needs in practice, research, and education. PRN members help ACCP develop educational programs and promote the activities of the PRNs. All Annual Meeting attendees are encouraged to attend a PRN meeting.

Adult Medicine PRN
Room 406

During this business and networking meeting, current and prospective members will have an opportunity to meet and exchange ideas. A business meeting, followed by a research presentation, will also be held.

Cardiology PRN
Governor’s Ballroom Salon B

Join the Cardiology PRN business meeting, with an informal reception to follow, allowing networking among new and old members, members collaborating on PRN-related projects, and trainees looking for job opportunities.

Drug Information PRN
Room 410

The Drug Information PRN will hold a business meeting and networking forum for current and prospective members. The meeting will provide an update of PRN activities as well as an opportunity to meet the officers and other PRN members and become involved with the PRN. A resident presentation will be given.

Education and Training PRN
Governor’s Ballroom Salon C

After our business meeting, we will briefly discuss interviewing skills. Clinical faculty and practitioners from around the nation will then conduct practice interviews for (1) students getting ready to apply for jobs or residencies and (2) residents and fellows getting ready to apply to their first career positions. All educators, students, and postgraduate trainees are invited to attend.

Emergency Medicine PRN

An annual PRN business meeting will take place to announce the new officers of the Emergency Medicine PRN; vote on pending issues regarding the PRN; alert members to participate in the focus session; and discuss pursuing the endorsement by the National Quality Forum of pharmacists in the emergency department as a safety and quality measure together with publishing opportunities.

Endocrine and Metabolism PRN

The Endocrine and Metabolism PRN will hold a networking forum to solicit membership and scholarship and to enhance resident/student participation. A roundtable discussion or presentation will be conducted together with the PRN’s business meeting.

Geriatrics PRN
Room 402

Please join the Geriatrics PRN as we discuss issues critical to the health care of older adults and plan the activities of the PRN for 2011.

GI/Liver/Nutrition PRN
Room 404

Interested attendees are invited to attend the PRN business meeting and networking forum. Highlights include an open networking forum and an invited presentation from a PRN member. Non-PRN members are welcome. Food and beverages will be provided.

Infectious Diseases PRN
Governor’s Ballroom Salon A

The Infectious Diseases PRN will meet at the Annual Meeting this fall to conduct our annual business meeting. The program will feature the winner of the Resident Travel Award as well as research presentations by PRN resident members. PRN initiatives will be discussed. After the business meeting, there will be time for networking and socializing with colleagues.

Pain and Palliative Care PRN

There will be a short business meeting and introduction of new officers. This will be followed by short presentations from residents in pain and palliative care programs and an informal discussion of the merits and drawbacks of BPS certification in pain and palliative care.

Pediatrics PRN
Room 602

Come join the Pediatrics PRN for a fun icebreaker, interesting business meeting, and provocative discussion forum about pediatric postgraduate education. We will discuss the status of pediatric residencies and fellowships and debate the pros and cons of PGY1 with pediatric emphasis and PGY1 plus PGY2 pediatric specialties.

This 2-hour meeting will consist of a business component and a networking component. The purpose of the business meeting will be to disseminate information about the past and future activities of each PRN committee, current activities of ACCP specifically pertaining to the PRN, and potential future activities of the PRN. The business component will also have a presentation to highlight an innovative practice within ambulatory care. The networking component will encourage interaction and networking among members through entertaining activities.

Clinical Administration PRN

Please join the Clinical Administration PRN for a business meeting and networking session with your colleagues.

Critical Care PRN

Join us for the Critical Care PRN networking forum/business meeting and interact with colleagues while enjoying hors d’oeuvres and beverages. Presentations will include a summary of PRN activities, reports from PRN officers, and the Resident/Fellow Research Travel Award.

Health Outcomes PRN
Room 602

Please join the Health Outcomes PRN for our business meeting and networking forum; members and interested meeting attendees are welcome to attend. Past and future PRN activities will be discussed, including 2010–2011 strategic planning. Hors d’oeuvres and beverages will be provided.

Hematology/Oncology PRN

This is an opportunity to meet new colleagues and speak with established colleagues having similar practice interests. The business meeting will review the accomplishments of the past year and look ahead to the future for new opportunities to move the profession forward.

Immunology/Transplantation PRN
Room 404

Present and prospective members are welcome to join our networking and business meeting. The business meeting will consist of installing new officers, discussing current and future PRN initiatives, and honoring the recipient of our PRN Resident/Fellow Travel Award. The meeting will conclude with a debate by transplant specialty residents on a current transplant issue.

Nephrology PRN
Room 410

All ACCP members interested in nephrology are invited to attend and participate in this networking forum. A brief business report will be followed by a discussion of current and future projects and initiatives. Open discussion and networking opportunities will round out the session. Snacks and beverages will be provided.

Pharmaceutical Industry PRN
Room 406

The Pharmaceutical Industry PRN’s business and networking meeting will open with 45 minutes of socializing. The business meeting will focus on brief updates from present committees and ongoing activities (e.g., PRN opinion paper development) and will last about 45 minutes. The remaining 1.5 hours will allow time for the task force, committees, and other working groups to convene and discuss the progress of their work.

Pharmacokinetics/Pharmacodynamics PRN
Room 402

A networking forum for PRN members and guests will discuss current issues in pharmacokinetics, pharmacodynamics, and pharmacogenomics. Time will also be allocated for members to discuss potential topics for PRN symposia at upcoming ACCP meetings and other topics relevant to the PRN.

Women’s Health PRN
Room 412

The Women’s Health PRN will hold a networking forum for current and prospective members. The business meeting will include an update of PRN activities and initiatives, as well as an opportunity to become involved in the PRN and meet others with interests and practices in women’s health. Members of the Women’s Health PRN help build one another’s careers. Come network! Appetizers and nonalcoholic beverages will be served.
