Postgraduate Trainee Update

Resident Advisory Committee Develops Programs for Postgraduate Trainees

The Resident Advisory Committee is made up of ACCP member residents, fellows, and graduate students and has directed several initiatives, including annual meeting programming for postgraduate trainees. The 2012 program, “Writing for Publication,” will be held on Monday afternoon. For the first time, attendees will be eligible to receive continuing education credit for a postgraduate trainee session.

In addition, postgraduate trainees are receiving a monthly electronic newsletter titled Experts in Training. Residents and fellows have also been given a home page on the ACCP Web site. Content for the Web site is continuously being added.

The newly appointed 2012-2013 Resident Advisory Committee will be chaired by Alexander Flannery and cochaired by Aimee Loucks. Members-at-large serving on the committee include Henry Dunnenberger, Rebecca Gonzalez, Rena Gosser, Christina McKenzie, Jeremy Moretz, Deborah Raithel, Melissa Rees, Michael Smith, and Niyati Vakil.

Mentoring Program to be Expanded

Because of the positive feedback received from participants in the 2011–2012 pilot test of the mentoring program for postgraduate trainees, the program will be expanded in 2012–2013. All postgraduate trainee members of ACCP will be able to search our database of ACCP members who have volunteered to serve as mentors. Once the trainee has selected a mentor, he or she is encouraged to correspond with the mentor at least monthly throughout his or her training year. ACCP supports mentors and mentees with monthly e-mails of potential topics for discussion. Opportunities and resources ACCP offers postgraduate trainees are also included in the monthly correspondence. If you have more than 5 years of professional experience and would like to serve as an ACCP mentor, please contact Keri Sims at [email protected].
