Research Institute Update

PBRN

As the ACCP Annual Meeting approaches, we wanted to share with you an update of the activities and success of the Research Institute. Thank you for supporting the ACCP Research Institute.

Join the ACCP PBRN

The ACCP PBRN is a group of clinical pharmacy members from across the United States delivering clinical pharmacy services at a variety of academic, inpatient, outpatient, and other practice settings. Together, they form a nationwide network of pharmacists interested in answering research questions. To join the ACCP PBRN, please visit our Web site (www.accpri.org) and complete the online registry form. Once you join the registry, you need to complete a portfolio with PBRNConnect so that you can participate in any PBRN project (www.accpri.org/pbrnconnect).

The ACCP PBRN continues to grow since its launch in February 2009. We have 779 members to date, including members who have joined through existing PBRNs and whose data are shown below. We encourage each of you to join!

How do I join the ACCP PBRN?

The ACCP PBRN has created a one-stop resource for all PBRN-related materials called PBRNConnect. Located at www.accpri.org/pbrnconnect, this resource allows ACCP PBRN members to view, print, and download research and PBRN-related documents. In addition, PBRNConnect will serve as a repository for all PBRN-related training. Moreover, each ACCP PBRN member will need to upload his or her own portfolio documents within the secure PBRNConnect site to be eligible to participate in ACCP PBRN studies. ACCP PBRN members access this site using their usual ACCP.com log-in.

Collaborate with the ACCP PBRN

Have an idea for the next ACCP PBRN project? Collaborate with the ACCP PBRN to complete your project. The ACCP PRN is committed to supporting the research efforts of our members and furthering the success of clinical pharmacists. We welcome proposals from ACCP PBRN members and other external investigators looking to collaborate with the ACCP PBRN to facilitate practice-based clinical pharmacy research. To learn more about how to collaborate with the ACCP PBRN, please visit www.accpri.org/pbrn/partner.aspx.

FIT

Join Us in Hollywood for an ACCP PBRN and FIT “Ask the Experts” Roundtable Discussion

The ACCP Research Institute will present programming in conjunction with the Research and Scholarship Certificate Program. We encourage you to attend to learn more about how you can collaborate with the ACCP PBRN and how attending the FIT Program can benefit your members.

The programming will be offered during the PBRN “Ask the Experts” Roundtable Discussion on Tuesday, October 23, 2012, 9:00 a.m.–10:00 a.m., at the Westin Diplomat Resort Hotel, Regency Ballroom 1.

PBRN staff and members of the PBRN’s Community Advisory Panel (CAP) are available to discuss various topics related to research within the network, including:

Becoming a PBRN member

Member support for Human Subjects’ Training and IRB submission

Research ideas that fit within a PBRN setting

Participating in PBRN projects as a clinical researcher

Developing and advancing your own research ideas within the network, including submitting a PBRN research proposal to the FIT Program

2013 Focused Investigator Training
(FIT) Program

Are you an experienced researcher who has just not yet received that big grant as a principal investigator? Do you have pilot data, and are you ready to submit for larger funding? Submit your proposal to the Focused Investigator Training (FIT) Program. There, National Institutes of Health (NIH)-funded experts will analyze, dissect, chew on, think about, rehash, and then help you rebuild your proposal during this 5-day course.

The FIT Program will be held July 27–31, 2013, at the University of Georgia College of Pharmacy in Athens. Through this mentored program, pharmacist faculty take necessary steps toward preparing a K, R, or similar investigator-initiated application for submission to the NIH or other major funding source.

Online applications for the 2012 FIT Program will open on October 1, 2012, and close on March 1, 2013. Applicants will be notified of their selection status by May 1, 2013.

The ACCP RI is pleased to support the tuition of one FIT attendee in 2013 whose proposal uses the ACCP PBRN as his or her laboratory. Contact the ACCP Research Institute for more information (www.accpri.org).
