Travel Awards Promote Student and Resident/Fellow Meeting Attendance

ACCP initiated its Student Travel Awards and Resident/Fellow Travel Awards programs to support and encourage student, resident, and fellow, attendance at ACCP national meetings as well as to expand opportunities for students and postgraduate trainees throughout the organization. To date, ACCP has awarded more than $52,000 in travel stipends and complimentary meeting registrations. In addition, many PRNs are now offering their own travel awards for students, residents, and fellows, providing even more opportunities for attendees to apply for funding to defray the costs associated with attending the Annual Meeting.

ACCP thanks the following PRNs and chapters for either donating funds to ACCP Travel Awards programs or sponsoring their own travel awards:

  • Adult Medicine
  • Ambulatory Care
  • Cardiology
  • Central Nervous System
  • Clinical Administration
  • Critical Care
  • Drug Information
  • Education and Training
  • Geriatrics
  • GI/Liver/Nutrition

ACCP Student Membership – Continued Growth

We thank the many PRN members and liaisons who have encouraged students to consider professional membership in ACCP. Your efforts to reach out to students continue to expand the opportunities for students within the organization.

Since 2005, ACCP student membership has grown from 300 members to more than 2415. ACCP has student members in all 50 states and in 11 countries, representing 131 institutions.

ACCP Formally Establishes Student Chapters

ACCP is pleased to announce that schools and colleges of pharmacy may now submit an application to form an officially recognized ACCP student chapter. Because of the growing interest in clinical pharmacy, the ACCP Board of Regents seeks to expand opportunities for student involvement in the College by formally recognizing student chapters. Students can benefit from ACCP membership in many ways, including:

  • Leadership development experiences (as student liaisons and as members of the National Student Network Advisory Committee);
  • Options to explore clinical pharmacy specialties (by taking advantage of complimentary student membership in up to two PRNs);
  • Opportunities to expand and showcase their knowledge (through Scientific Poster Presentations and the Clinical Pharmacy Challenge); and
  • Career development guidance (through the CV Review Service, the Emerge from the Crowd: How to Become a Standout Residency Candidate sessions, and career development programming at national meetings).

Creating a student chapter is a great way to help pharmacy students learn about clinical pharmacy and get involved in ACCP. Any ACCP College of Pharmacy Faculty Liaison can establish a formally recognized student chapter by submitting an official chapter application. If the application is approved, the liaison will be invited to serve as the primary faculty adviser for the student chapter. For complete information on establishing a student chapter, and to download a New ACCP Chapter Application, please visit www.accp.com/stunet/studentliaisons.aspx. For more information about student chapters, contact Jon Poynter at [email protected].

ACCP’s Popular Online Curriculum Vitae Review Program Returns

ACCP’s innovative Online Curriculum Vitae Review Service is accepting submissions. This program, begun in 2006, is an exclusive service offered to ACCP student and postgraduate trainee (PGT) members to facilitate their curriculum vitae (CV) preparation. As the clinical pharmacy profession continues to see an increase in demand for internship experiences and residency positions as well as an increase in competition for first-rate jobs, it is vital that students have a well-written CV. An effective CV can provide the student a positive image in the future selection of committees or employers and distinguish an individual from the crowd.

Demand for the CV Review Service continues to increase. Last year, ACCP CV reviewers provided more than 400 students and PGT members with valuable professional advice for improving their CVs. The CV review service is accepting submissions through May 31, 2014. The service will then reopen on August 1, 2014, after a short summer break.

Students and PGT members can submit their CVs online as a Microsoft Word document and have them randomly assigned to a volunteer ACCP member reviewer. The ACCP reviewer will provide his or her comments and suggested edits using the track changes feature of Microsoft Word. Participants will receive an e-mail containing feedback from the reviewer within 14 business days.

2013–2014 National Student Network Advisory Committee Appointed

Earlier this year, ACCP issued a call for applications to student members interested in serving on the National Student Network Advisory Committee (SNAC). The College received applications from students across the country. After reviewing their applications, ACCP President-Elect Gary Yee selected student members for appointment. The committee will convene at the upcoming 2013 Annual Meeting. ACCP is pleased to announce the appointment of the following student members to the 2013–2014 ACCP SNAC.
