New PRNs
Global Health and HIV Practice and Research Networks Approved
ACCP members seeking to network with member colleagues who share their practice and research interests now have a choice of 24 practice and research networks (PRNs), the newest of which are the Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV) and Global Health (GLBL) PRNs.
Both PRNs were approved by the ACCP Board of Regents earlier this year, and their inaugural business and networking meetings will be held during the Annual Meeting in Austin, Texas. The HIV PRN will meet on Monday, October 13, and the GLBL PRN will meet on Tuesday, October 14, both from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. All interested students, postgraduate trainees, and practitioners are invited to attend.
The HIV PRN will give members an opportunity to collaborate on and discuss the management of HIV patients through transitions of care in both inpatient and ambulatory care settings. The PRN will help clinical pharmacists optimize care for HIV-infected patients by providing a forum in which to share evidence-based recommendations and professional experiences, according to Founding Chair Melissa Badowski, Pharm.D., an assistant professor at the University of Illinois at Chicago. “I am excited that ACCP has provided clinical pharmacists with an interest in HIV the opportunity to create the first HIV Practice and Research Network for pharmacists,” Badowski said.
All clinical pharmacists who come in contact with one or many HIV-infected patients are encouraged to join the HIV PRN. To join, visit www.accp.com/prns/entrance.aspx?prn=hiv.
The Global Health PRN offers ACCP members a dedicated network to address global health concerns, help reduce disparities in the delivery of pharmacy services on an international level, and learn from the successes and mistakes of other nations through education, research, and idea sharing.
The founding chair of the Global Health PRN, Renee Holder, Pharm.D., BCPS, believes that clinical pharmacists should have a significant stake in establishing their role in global health. “I was thrilled to learn that ACCP has recognized the need for the Global Health PRN,” she said. Dr. Holder is an assistant professor of pharmacy practice at Roseman University of Health Sciences College of Pharmacy, Henderson, Nevada. “Initial activities for the Global Health PRN will include proposing focus sessions for the 2015 Global Conference on Clinical Pharmacy and developing a PRN opinion paper on global clinical pharmacy practice,” Holder further commented.
