This fall, ACCP presents three premeeting symposia on Saturday, October 17, the day before the Annual Meeting officially gets under way. These presymposia are designed to give hands-on experience in a small classroom setting. Developed in collaboration with the ACCP Academy, each course is a required component of its respective ACCP Academy Certificate Program; however, it is not necessary to be enrolled in the ACCP Academy to participate in these courses. The Clinical Practice Primer, Basic Training for New Clinical Faculty and Preceptors, and Basics of Clinical Research are each led by a group of experienced faculty and offer participants a highly interactive experience.
The Clinical Practice Primer is the required prerequisite course for the newest certificate program in the ACCP Academy—Clinical Practice Advancement. The Primer is a full-day course designed to provide a framework for developing a strategic plan for the participant’s professional advancement. Successful clinical practices will be examined, and attendees will learn strategies to justify clinical services, how to pursue their own professional development, and methods to cultivate productive relationships in collaborative patient care environments.
Basic Training for New Clinical Faculty and Preceptors serves as the prerequisite required course for the ACCP Academy Teaching and Learning Certificate Program. Designed to provide a foundation for faculty and preceptors beginning their careers, this full-day course engages participants in thoughtful discussions and small group exercises. One of ACCP’s most well-received educational courses, Basic Training, successfully helps young academicians develop the knowledge and skills needed to plan, implement, and assess student learning.
Basics of Clinical Research is a half-day course, serving as required module 1 in the ACCP Academy Research and Scholarship Certificate Program. By presenting a review of study designs in various areas of research, accomplished faculty will provide participants with pearls for their own research projects. The basics of writing successful grant proposals, securing funding, and surviving the review process are included in the discussions.
