New PSAP Series Goes On Sale This Month

The new edition of ACCP’s acclaimed Pharmacotherapy Self-Assessment Program (PSAP-VII) goes on sale Monday, August 17, with early bird pricing available until December 15.

Cardiology, the first book in the PSAP-VII series, will be released on January 15, 2010. Every PSAP book is designed to update the clinical practitioner on a specific therapeutic area. Readers of PSAP will find improved content, a redesigned format, and several new reader-friendly features in the new series. As in the previous edition, PSAP-VII books will be available in print, in online format, or both.

For almost two decades, PSAP has been the home study program of choice for pharmacotherapy specialists who want the latest information on a wide range of clinical and patient care topics. The Board of Pharmaceutical Specialties has approved previous editions of PSAP as a home study program for recertification of board-certified pharmacotherapy specialists (BCPSs). ACCP will seek similar approval for the seventh edition of the series.

PSAP-VII Book Releases

After Cardiology, the other quarterly releases in this 11-book series will be Critical Care/Urgent Care (April 2010), Women’s and Men’s Health (July 2010), Pediatrics (October 2010), Chronic Illnesses (January 2011), Oncology (April 2011), Geriatrics (July 2011), Science and Practice (October 2011), Infectious Diseases (January 2012), Neurology/Psychiatry (April 2012), and Gastroenterology/Nutrition (July 2012).

New Features of the Seventh Edition

Improvements to the new series will ensure that PSAP remains the premier home study program for pharmacotherapy specialists. Like the previous edition, PSAP-VII books will feature shorter chapters focusing on only the most recent information or topics; complete online testing; expanded annotated bibliographies with recent research and additional learning resources; and explained answers to each self-assessment question with supporting evidence and rationale.

Based on subscriber input, the Editorial Board has developed separate books focusing on pediatric and geriatric topics. Also because of reader suggestion, each chapter will include a new Baseline Resources Box with suggested resources for background information on the topic.

All PSAP-VII books will feature an updated, reader-friendly design and typography to help the learner move through the material more easily. In the self-assessment portion of the books, readers will benefit from an updated design, e-mail confirmation of test submission, user-generated credit reports, and clickable links that lead directly from the explained answers to online research articles with more information.

An 11-member panel of accomplished pharmacists guides the development of the new series. The PSAP-VII Editorial Board consists of Michelle M. Richardson, Pharm.D., FCCP, BCPS (chair); Katherine H. Chessman, Pharm.D., FCCP, BCPS (vice-chair); Clarence Chant, Pharm.D., BCPS; Judy W.M. Cheng, Pharm.D., FCCP, BCPS; Brian A. Hemstreet, Pharm.D., BCPS; Anne L. Hume, Pharm.D., FCCP, BCPS; Lisa C.
