Ross

Leigh Ann Ross, Pharm.D., FCCP, FASHP, FAPhA, FNAP, BCPS, was chosen as ACCP president-elect in the annual elections held last spring. Ross is currently an associate dean for clinical affairs, director of the Center for Clinical and Translational Science, professor of pharmacy practice, and research professor in the Research Institute of Pharmaceutical Sciences at the University of Mississippi (UM) School of Pharmacy. She also serves as professor of population health science in the University of Mississippi Medical Center (UMMC) John D. Bower School of Population Health. Ross received a bachelor’s degree in business administration and a Pharm.D. degree from UM before completing a primary care residency at UMMC. She subsequently served as a congressional fellow in the office of U.S. Senator Thad Cochran. During her career at UM, Ross rose to the position of chair of the Department of Pharmacy Practice and director of Pharmaceutical Care Services. Today, she is the UM pharmacy school’s liaison with UMMC, the current director of the UM Community-Based Research Program, and oversees clinical partnerships for practice advancement. Ross has served as chair of the Pharmacotherapy Publications, Inc., Board of Directors since 2017 and previously served on the ACCP Board of Regents and as chair of the ACCP-PAC Governing Council. Ross is also past chair of the American Association of Colleges of Pharmacy (AACP) Pharmacy Practice Section and a graduate of the AACP Academic Leadership Fellows Program. More recently, she chaired the AACP Strategic Engagement Committee.

In other election results, Jennifer Clements, Pharm.D., FCCP, BCPS, BCACP, CDE, was elected as secretary, and Mary Parker, Pharm.D., FCCP, FASHP, BCPS, BCCCP, and Sharon See, Pharm.D., FCCP, BCPS, were selected as regents. Clements is a clinical pharmacy specialist in diabetes transitions at Spartanburg Regional Healthcare System in Spartanburg, South Carolina. Parker is a clinical pharmacy specialist in ambulatory care and a clinic coordinator at the Durham VA Health Care System in Durham, North Carolina. See is a clinical professor and assistant chair in the Department of Clinical Health Professions at St. John’s University College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences in New York, New York. In conjunction with her full-time appointment at St. John’s University, See serves as a clinical faculty member in the Brookdale Department of Geriatrics and Palliative Medicine at Mount Sinai Hospital in New York City, where she is the geriatrics pharmacist on the Mobile Acute Care of the Elderly (MACE) service.

Banderas

Bishop

In addition, Julie Wright Banderas, Pharm.D., FCCP, and Jeffrey Bishop, Pharm.D., M.S., FCCP, BCPP, were each elected to 3-year terms as ACCP Foundation trustees. Banderas is a professor at the University of Missouri-Kansas City (UMKC) School of Medicine, where she is also assistant dean for graduate programs and chair of the Department of Graduate Health Professions. Bishop is an associate professor of pharmacy and psychiatry at the University of Minnesota.

Ross will begin her term as president-elect after the 2020 ACCP Annual Meeting in October and will assume the presidency the following year. As president, she will serve as chair of the Board of Regents and guide College programs and activities. In a recent interview with the ACCP Report, she commented:

I am thankful to the members of ACCP for the trust you have placed in me to serve as a presidential officer of our organization. This is a critical time in health care, as our profession is in transition, health care delivery models are evolving, and the current pandemic is impacting many aspects of our lives. This transformation provides opportunities for clinical pharmacists to contribute in ways we have not before. We must advocate for clinical pharmacists as full participants in new delivery models by engaging in legislative and regulatory development, building working relationships with policy collaborators, and clearly communicating the professional abilities of pharmacists. The future of clinical pharmacy is bright! I thank you for your support and I look forward to working together to shape a unified agenda and build strategic partnerships to positively transform practice.

Each incoming member of the College’s Board of Regents and Board of Trustees will be installed during the 2020 ACCP Annual Meeting for 3-year terms. Other candidates for office in the 2020 elections were Scott Bolesta, Christopher Ensor, Bruce Mueller, Brian Overholser, Brent Reed, and Steven Smith.
