Rhoney Chosen ACCP President-Elect

Rhoney

Denise H. Rhoney, Pharm.D., FCCP, FNCS, MCCM, was chosen as ACCP president-elect in the annual elections held this past spring. Rhoney is the Ronald and Nancy McFarlane Distinguished Professor in the Division of Practice Advancement and Clinical Education at the University of North Carolina (UNC) Eshelman School of Pharmacy in Chapel Hill, North Carolina. She received her B.S. degree in pharmacy and her Pharm.D. degree at the University of Kentucky, where she also completed pharmacy practice and critical care residencies. In addition, she completed a clinical research fellowship at UNC/Glaxo. Throughout her career, Rhoney has built a multidisciplinary research program as an investigator on numerous clinical trials. Her research focuses on answering research questions directed toward improving the care of critically ill patients with neurologic injury through optimizing medication dosing and administration. Rhoney has served ACCP as a member of the Annual Meeting Programming Committee, chair of the Programming and Membership committees, member of the Research Committee for the Critical Care PRN, and chair of the Programming Committee for the CNS PRN. She was elected trustee and chair of the ACCP Foundation and serves as a MeRIT program mentor. She recently served on the ACCP Task Force on Residency Training and the Educational Affairs Committee.

Bondi

Kane-Gill

In other election results, John M. Allen, Pharm.D., FCCP, FCCM, BCPS, BCCCP, was selected as ACCP treasurer, and Deborah S. Bondi, Pharm.D., FCCP, FPPA, BCPS, BCPPS, and Sandra L. Kane-Gill, Pharm.D., M.Sc., FCCP, FCCM, were selected as regents. Allen is the associate dean for Student Success, Wellness, and Community Engagement and clinical associate professor at the University of Florida College of Pharmacy (UFCOP) and the program director for the UFCOP Health Disparities Post-Doctoral Research Fellowship. Bondi is a pediatric clinical pharmacy coordinator, clinical pharmacy specialist in the neonatal intensive care unit, and PGY2 pediatric pharmacy residency program director at the University of Chicago Medicine, Comer Children’s Hospital in Chicago, Illinois. Kane-Gill is a tenured professor and interim chair of pharmacy and therapeutics at the University of Pittsburgh School of Pharmacy and a critical care medication safety pharmacist in the Department of Pharmacy at UPMC. 


Suda

Afolabi

Titilola M. Afolabi, Pharm.D., FCCP, BCPPS, and Katie J. Suda, Pharm.D., M.S., FCCP, were each elected to 3-year terms as ACCP Foundation trustees. Afolabi is an associate professor at the University of Tennessee Health Science Center, College of Pharmacy. Suda is a clinical pharmacy specialist, investigator, and associate director with the VA Center for Health Equity Research and Promotion and professor at the University of Pittsburgh schools of medicine and pharmacy. 

Rhoney will begin her term as president-elect after the 2024 ACCP Annual Meeting in October and will assume the presidency the following year. As president, she will serve as chair of the Board of Regents and guide College programs and activities. In an interview with the ACCP Report, she commented: 

Becoming ACCP president-elect is a dream come true! ACCP has been my guiding light, and I’m humbled to lead this incredible organization forward. Imagine the impact we can make by bridging the past, present, and future of clinical pharmacy. We’ll solidify our research foundation, champion innovative practices, and truly embody the spirit of advancing patient care. The future of health care and clinical pharmacy is bright, and together with ACCP, we’ll blaze new trails! 

Each incoming member of the Board of Regents and Board of Trustees will be installed during the 2024 ACCP Annual Meeting for 3-year terms. Other candidates for office in the 2024 elections were William Baker, David Burgess, Elias Chahine, Allison Chung, and Mark Shaefer. 

Members of the 2023 Nominations Committee who recommended the 2024 slate of candidates to the Board of Regents were Miranda Andrus (chair), Ty Kiser (vice chair), Keith Olsen (secretary), Jill Kolesar, Mary Lee, Eric MacLaughlin, and Kimberly Thrasher.
