2016 Clinical Reasoning Series Programs Offer Specialty Recertification Credit Through November 30

The 2016 home study editions of ACCP’s Clinical Reasoning Series programs will be available beginning November 1. Each program offers 6.0 hours of continuing pharmacy education (CPE) credit.

The 2016 From Theory to Practice: Clinical Reasoning Series in the Ambulatory Care Pharmacy program, titled “Hepatitis C: The Newest Strategies for Management and Treatment,” is designed for Board Certified Ambulatory Care Pharmacists (BCACPs). It provides an in-depth analysis of the current evidence on the use of various agents approved for the management of hepatitis C and discusses the implications for pharmacists’ patient care services. The program summarizes the scientific evidence and patient care recommendations necessary for enhancing patient outcomes and includes activities designed to advance participants’ abilities to incorporate significant findings into daily practice. The 2016 From Theory to Practice: Clinical Reasoning Series in Pharmacotherapy program, titled “Updates in Challenging Infectious Diseases,” is designed for Board Certified Pharmacotherapy Specialists (BCPSs), providing contemporary strategies for the optimal treatment of patients with fungal infections, endocarditis, meningitis, and intra-abdominal infections. It also explores best practices in the management of resistant gram-negative infections. Expert faculty provide an in-depth analysis of published scientific evidence and learning exercises that help inform patient care decisions and advance the application of best evidence to clinical pharmacy practice. New this year, the 2016 From Theory to Practice: Clinical Reasoning Series in Critical Care Pharmacy, titled “Management of Patients with Circulatory Shock,” provides an in-depth analysis of current strategies for the treatment of patients with circulatory shock and conditions that may lead to circulatory shock, as well as a discussion on the implications for pharmacists’ patient care services. Board Certified Critical Care Pharmacists (BCCCPs) and BCPSs can earn 6.0 hours of recertification credit. Participants who are certified in both critical care pharmacy and pharmacotherapy will earn 6.0 hours of credit toward recertification in both specialties. Also new this year, the 2016 From Theory to Practice: Clinical Reasoning Series in Pediatric Pharmacy, titled “The ABC’s of Pediatric Epilepsy: From Status Epilepticus to Long-term Seizure Management,” will evaluate pharmacologic treatment options for patients who present in status epilepticus. Expert faculty will compare the efficacy and toxicities of oral antiepileptic medications used for the treatment of pediatric epilepsy syndromes and discuss how to design an evidence-based therapeutic plan for treating patients with complex pediatric epilepsy. The home study editions include audio/slide-synchronized presentations, MP3 audio files, PDF files of the program book and associated documents, and an online posttest. To be eligible for the 6.0 hours of specialty recertification credit offered in each program, board-certified specialists must successfully complete their respective program’s web-based posttest by November 30, 2016.
