Prior to selecting a mentor, please make sure you are able to commit to the program’s expectations defined below. Selection of a mentor will commit you to:

• Upholding the mentor-mentee relationship through regular communication (approximately 1 hour per month through June)
• Contacting your mentor for the initial interaction within two weeks of receiving his/her contact information.
• Being prepared for each interaction by setting goals and writing out questions.

Please make sure you are ready to commit to the relationship before choosing a mentor. If at any point you become unable to uphold the relationship, please contact Keri Sims at [email protected].

After verifying your contact information and entering your preferences, you will be provided with a list of available mentors, including their name, location, and practice areas.

When choosing a mentor you may want to:

• Look for someone who has the kind of career you’d like to have. This can be accomplished by doing additional research on the individual mentors, either through literature searches or their institutions’ Web sites.
• Set goals for the mentoring relationship and consider these goals as you search for a mentor.
• Review A) your current training program and B) your professional goals. Consider who might help you get from A to B.
• Consider whether you would prefer to intensify your network within the same geographic region or broaden it to include a different geographic region.
• Evaluate what areas of your professional life are in the greatest need of mentoring.
• Consult a preceptor or faculty member in your current professional network to give you an opinion on who might be a good mentor for you.

Once you have selected a mentor, you will be provided with that mentor’s contact information and the mentor will be notified that you will be contacting him/her within two weeks.
