ACSAP 2013-2015

Mission Statement

ACCP’s newest home study series provides ambulatory care pharmacy specialists with pertinent therapeutic updates to enhance and assess their practice skills and improve patient outcomes.

Featuring enhanced electronic access, summary graphics, and multimedia elements, ACSAP provides “anywhere, anytime” learning opportunities for the ambulatory care pharmacist.

ACSAP has been approved by the Board of Pharmacy Specialties as a professional development activity for BCACP recertification.

Electronic Features Expand Access

For the busy professional, learning must often take place “on the go.” By taking advantage of online features, ACSAP increases the ways you can access this material and fit it into your time management planning.

The evidence-based information in ACSAP releases is provided as online PDFs that incorporate the latest electronic features, enhancing their “anytime, anywhere” access with direct links to original data sources.

  • Intra-document links: Go directly from the table of contents to an individual learning module, a specific chapter topic, or a section heading.
  • Authority links: Information relating to current guidelines, online tools, or agency resources includes live links to these official sources.
  • Reference links: The ACSAP chapter text is fully referenced, with direct links to PubMed, the Cochrane Database, and other compilers so you can access the original sources of this information.
  • Where appropriate, some chapters contain multi-media elements (audio, video) illustrating patient-care concepts important to the topic.
Formated to Fit Your Lifestyle

E-Media Package: Enhance your Online Book purchase with this group of digital products, which includes an e-reader version of the text and SAQs (compatible with all popular e-readers and tablets including the Apple iPad family of products, Barnes & Noble Nook family of products, Amazon Kindle and Kindle Fire family of products, Sony and Kobo e-readers, Android tablets and more); and a downloadable package of the full-color graphics not included with the e-reader file.

Information to Improve Your Practice

The clinical updates provided in ACSAP can be used immediately to provide quality patient care and improve patient outcomes. Each release contains peer-reviewed chapters packed with current, relevant information on a specific therapeutic area. Each chapter includes updates on critical pharmacotherapy, in-text references to the latest research, and graphic features designed to help integrate this information directly into clinical practice.

  • Algorithms provide a ready framework to assist in clinical decision making.
  • Tables and boxes summarize concepts and provide easy comparison of data.
  • Patient Care Scenario boxes illustrate treatment choices for a common patient presentation.
  • Pivotal Study That May Change Practice provides detailed information on a new landmark trial.
  • Practice Points summarize chapter content and provide take-home messages.
Aids Enhance Content Mastery

The 2013-2015 ACSAP releases include several features designed to promote assimilation of this important information.

  • Baseline Knowledge Statements outline the foundational topic information presumed on the part of the reader and not contained in the chapter.
  • Additional Readings cite open-source materials that can maximize learning by providing baseline information on the topic.
  • Reference values for a wide range of common laboratory tests are provided in a convenient back-of-the-book table.

Self-assessment of the material is by case-based multiple-choice questions that test application of the material using patient care scenarios. Online answers are a vital component of the learning process and include a detailed rationale for each self-assessment question with additional direct links to electronic references that support and further explain optimal decision-making. Program Goals and Target Audience

ACSAP is a series of continuing education activities that provide pertinent pharmacotherapeutic updates with an emphasis on quality patient care. Each ACSAP release presents the latest information on a specific topic, with content drawn from the Board of Pharmacy Specialties (BPS) outline for the Board Certified Ambulatory Care Pharmacist (BCACP). This allows ambulatory care pharmacists to develop and assess their knowledge in the science and application of pharmacotherapy and to enhance their educational competence in this specialty.

Each ACSAP release has new, evidence-based content that can be integrated into structured training programs or assist advanced-level practitioners in maintaining their clinical competence. ACSAP has been approved by the Board of Pharmacy Specialties as a professional development activity for BCACP recertification.

Continuing Pharmacy Education Credit
ACPE

The American College of Clinical Pharmacy is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education (ACPE) as a provider of continuing pharmacy education. The number of continuing pharmacy education contact hours earned for successfully completing a posttest varies with each ACSAP module. The ACPE-approved continuing pharmacy education credit associated with each ACSAP module is available for 3 years after the date of release. All ACSAP releases are application-based activities.

BCACP Recertification by Continuing Education

Subscribers seeking board certified ambulatory care pharmacist (BCACP) recertification credit from a ACSAP module must submit the posttest within 4 months after the release of the book. Refer to the first page of each release for the deadline to submit posttests for BCACP recertification credit.

Posttests submitted for BCACP recertification credit are processed within 60 days of the published test deadline. Only completed posttests are eligible for credit. The passing point for BCACP recertification credit is based on a statistical analysis of the posttest results for each module. Credits earned by passing the posttest are forwarded to BPS.

This six-book ACSAP series is designed to provide sufficient opportunity for the 100 continuing pharmacy education credits needed for recertification as a BCACP.

ACPE Continuing Pharmacy Education Credit

To receive ACPE continuing pharmacy education credit for a ACSAP module, the posttest must be completed online and submitted for scoring. ACPE continuing pharmacy education credit is awarded for posttest scores of 50% or greater. Answers to the self-assessment questions, with detailed rationale and supporting references, are made available online to subscribers after the close of the BCACP testing period.

WAIVER

To receive detailed answers to ACSAP questions without submitting a posttest, go to “My Account” on the ACCP Web site, select the module you wish to waive, and click the “waive credit” link. You will receive a link to view the self-assessment question answers, along with detailed rationale and supporting references. By completing this process, you waive the opportunity to receive continuing pharmacy education credit for that ACSAP module.
