Session Overview
The Fundamentals of Biostatistics and Clinical Trial Design Workshop is presented live at ACCP’s Spring Forum. Presented by two of ACCP’s most dynamic and knowledgeable faculty, Drs. Segars and Soric, this workshop is ideal for clinical pharmacists who plan to sit for a Board of Pharmacy Specialties (BPS) exam, are interested in learning more about biostatistics and trial design, or wish to earn 5.0 hours of board specialty recertification credit in Ambulatory Care Pharmacy, Critical Care Pharmacy, Pediatric Pharmacy, or Pharmacotherapy.

Program Content
The workshop is divided into two major sections:
- An overview of descriptive versus interferential statistics, factors that influence errors and how to estimate sample size, and choosing the appropriate statistics test.
- Observational and interventional study designs and methodologies, how to best interpret measures of association, and screenings in medicine.

Target Audience and Learning Objectives
Clinical pharmacists with an interest in statistics and trial design, clinical pharmacists who plan to sit for a BPS specialty exam, and clinical pharmacists wishing to earn recertification credit in Ambulatory Care Pharmacy, Critical Care Pharmacy, Pediatric Pharmacy, or Pharmacotherapy.
At the conclusion of the program, the participant should be able to:
- Delineate the key attributes of study variables (data) and the primary levels/categories of data measurement (give examples of each). Develop examples of converting data from one level/category to another.
- Define the two primary types of errors possible when statistically interpreting and making inferences on data being compared.
- Define and interpret a p value and confidence intervals, including the concept of statistical significance, for both absolute and relative comparison values.
- Define the difference between independent and paired (repeated measures) data measurements and comparisons.
- Select the most appropriate statistical test given the type/level of data measurement assessed and given the research question being addressed in a study.
- Differentiate and recognize the designs and structures of key studies utilized in medical publications.
- Define and interpret key study-related concepts and terms.
- Describe and calculate the most important epidemiological terms associated with healthcare and research.
- Describe and calculate the key terms associated with healthcare screenings.

The American College of Clinical Pharmacy and the American Society of Health-System Pharmacists are accredited by the Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education as a provider of continuing pharmacy education.

Provided through the collaborative efforts of the National Association of Boards of Pharmacy (NABP), the Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education (ACPE), and ACPE-accredited providers, the CPE Monitor Service allows you to electronically keep track of continuing pharmacy education (CPE) credits from ACPE-accredited providers. ACPE-accredited providers, like ACCP, are responsible for transmitting this information to NABP to be stored in the CPE Monitor system. Statements of credit will be available at CPE Monitor, nabp.pharmacy/cpe-monitor-service/, within 2–3 business days after completion of this activity. Specialty Recertification Credit
This activity is available for BCACP, BCCCP, BCPPS, and BCPS recertification credit. Dual credit is available for this activity in any combination of the specialty certifications listed above. To be eligible for recertification credit, learners must purchase the recertification product, review all content, and successfully complete, submit and pass the online posttest(s) by May 18, 2023. Partial credit is not available for this activity. Only completed posttests will be eligible for credit; no partial or incomplete posttests will be processed. You are allowed only one attempt to successfully complete this assessment.
ACCP, as the official provider approved by BPS, will record and report recertification credit earned for this activity directly to BPS. These credits will be assigned as of the date of test submission. For statements of recertification credit, visit www.bpsweb.org.
All participants must have a Board of Pharmacy Specialties (BPS) board certification credential number, BPS ID Number, and a BPS expiration date on file with ACCP for reporting purposes.
