CCSAP 2017 Book 2 Renal/Pulmonary Critical Care

Pharmacists working in the critical care environment are often challenged with providing appropriate care for patients with multiorgan failure, including renal failure. Acute kidney injury (AKI) develops in hospitalized patients with extensive comorbid conditions, cardiac surgery, and exposure to nephrotoxic agents. Pharmacotherapy for patients with AKI is further complicated by the requirement for continuous renal replacement therapy (CRRT). Common pulmonary disorders in the ICU include acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS), COPD exacerbations, status asthmaticus, and pulmonary hypertension. Management of these disorders requires an understanding of treatment strategies including use of inhaled medications, mechanical ventilation, and extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO).

Joanna Q. Hudson, Pharm.D., FASN, FCCP, FNKF, BCPS

Renal/Pulmonary Critical Care, the May release in ACCP’s new Critical Care Self-Assessment Program (CCSAP), presents key information related to AKI and pulmonary disorders and the advanced knowledge of drug selection and drug regimen design in patients with these conditions. Two modules offer a total of 12.5 available continuing pharmacy education (CPE) credits. The book was developed under the leadership of Faculty Panel Chair Joanna Q. Hudson, Pharm.D., FASN, FCCP, FNKF, BCPS.

Each CCSAP release includes two full-color online formats: (1) interactive PDFs you can save to your desktop or print; and (2) an e-media version you can view on an e-reader, tablet, iOS, or Android smart phone

All CCSAP chapters are fully referenced, with clickable hyperlinks to literature compilers such as PubMed. Other links provide ready access to clinical practice guidelines, official recommendations, and patient assessment tools. Graphic features focus on pivotal studies, patient care scenarios, and take-home points that can be readily integrated into clinical practice.
