Series Overview

From Theory to Practice: Clinical Reasoning Series in Pharmacotherapy is one component of the professional development program developed by ACCP and approved by the Board of Pharmacy Specialties (BPS) for the recertification of the Board Certified Pharmacotherapy Specialist (BCPS).

This educational series explores cutting-edge, contemporary therapeutic topics, and demonstrates scientifically sound clinical reasoning and decision-making. It employs learning activities designed to advance the participants’ skills and abilities to critically evaluate the scientific evidence and to effectively incorporate into daily practice significant findings that lead to effective and safe patient care.

Program Content

“Updates in Challenging Infectious Diseases” will focus on contemporary strategies for the optimal management of patients with fungal infections, endocarditis, meningitis, and intraabdominal infections. It will also explore best practices in the management of resistant gram-negative infections.

  • Update on Managing Invasive Fungal Infections
  • Update on Treatment of Endocarditis, Meningitis, and Intra-abdominal Infections
  • Best Practices in the Management of Resistant Gram-Negative Infections

Target Audience and Program Goals

Clinical pharmacists, BCPSs providing care to patients with infectious diseases.

At the conclusion of the program, the participant should be able to:

  1. Assess the severity of disease in patients presenting with fungal infections, endocarditis, meningitis, intra-abdominal infections, and resistant gram-negative infections.
  2. Determine the best therapeutics option(s) in managing patients with fungal infections, endocarditis, meningitis, intra-abdominal infections, and resistant gram-negative infections utilizing ID stewardship principles.
  3. Discuss emerging diagnosis and therapeutic options in the management of severe infections such as fungal infections, endocarditis, meningitis, intra-abdominal infections, and resistant gram-negative infections.
  4. Manage the treatment and processes in transitions of care in patients with fungal infections, endocarditis, meningitis, intra-abdominal infections, and resistant gram-negative infections.
Continuing Pharmacy Education Credit

ACPE

The American College of Clinical Pharmacy is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education (ACPE) as a provider of continuing pharmacy education.

This is an application-based activity; Activity Number: 0217-0000-16-109-H01-P.

To earn continuing pharmacy education (CPE) credit and to receive your continuing pharmacy education statement of credit for this activity, participants must successfully complete a Web-based posttest by October 23, 2019. Partial credit is not available for this activity.

BCPS Specialty Recertification Credit

To be eligible for 6.0 CPE hours of recertification credit, BCPSs must attend all 6.0 contact hours of live programming and successfully complete a Web-based posttest by November 30, 2016. Partial credit is not available for this activity.

ACCP, as the official provider approved by BPS, will record and report recertification credit earned for this activity directly to BPS.
