The second release in the new Pediatric Self-Assessment Program (PedSAP) focuses on evidence-based advanced practice considerations for the management of pediatric critical care patients.

Joseph M. LaRochelle, Pharm.D., BCPPS

Pediatric Critical Care carries a total of 13 continuing pharmacy education (CPE) credits. Content was developed under the leadership of Faculty Panel Chair Joseph M. LaRochelle, Pharm.D., BCPPS.

The first two modules contain review-style chapters that examine the evidence for selected topics in critical care of the pediatric population. Chapters examine the advanced management of ARDS and Ventilator-Associated Conditions and Hemodynamic Instability. The second module summarizes recent evidence in the management of Extracorporeal Support and Trauma.

The Clinical and Practice Updates consists of interactive features that utilize innovative learning formats. These include an online interactive case in Severe Acute Asthma (Status Asthmaticus); an on-demand webcast exploring guidelines for Diabetic Ketoacidosis and Hyperglycemic Hyperosmolar State; and a second interactive case involving Status Epilepticus.

PedSAP chapters are fully referenced, with online links to literature compilers such as PubMed. In addition, hypertext links provide ready access to clinical practice guidelines, and other resources. Multimedia elements such as video and audio files along with graphics and tables help enhance the learning experience. Books are designed not only for BCPPS recertification credits but also to update clinical practice and improve patient outcomes.
