The latest release in ACCP's new Pediatric Self-Assessment Program (PedSAP) focuses on evidence-based updates for the management of pediatric patients with cancer being cared for in the acute and ambulatory care settings.
Pediatric Oncology carries a total of 9.0 continuing pharmacy education (CPE) credits. Content was developed under the leadership of Faculty Panel Chair Betsy M. Bickert Poon, Pharm.D., FCCP.
Chapters in the first module include an overview of the development of pediatric cancer treatment advances through the cooperative research paradigm, a discussion of therapeutic drug monitoring of asparaginase therapy, and the use of biosimilar products in pediatric oncology. The Clinical and Practice Updates module comprises three interactive web-based cases centering on (1) best practices for handling and preparation of chemotherapy, (2) education of patients/caregivers about handling hazardous medications, and (3) antimicrobial prophylaxis for pediatric patients receiving chemotherapy.
All PedSAP chapters are fully referenced, with online links to literature compilers such as PubMed. In addition, hypertext links provide ready access to clinical practice guidelines, additional readings, and other resources. PedSAP releases are designed not only to provide BCPPS recertification credits but also to update the pediatric clinical practitioner and improve patient outcomes.
