The latest release in ACCP’s popular Pharmacotherapy Self-Assessment Program (PSAP) provides critical, timely, comprehensive, and robust updates on hot topics in endocrinology and nephrology. The target audience for PSAP 2023 Book 1 (Endocrinology and Nephrology) is pharmacotherapy specialists and advanced level clinical pharmacists whose practice involves the direct care and management of patients living with diabetes, CKD, or other specialized endocrinologic considerations.
Endocrinology and Nephrology contains four learning modules with a total available 17.5 continuing pharmacy education (CPE) credits. The book content was developed under the leadership of Faculty Panel Chair Lalita Prasad-Reddy, Pharm.D., MS, FCCP, BCPS, BCACP, CDCES.
The first learning module focuses on evidence-based updates in diabetes, including the comprehensive management of chronic kidney disease in patients living with diabetes and an update on diabetes technology. The second module discusses the management of CKD-related complications with chapters on the approach to patients with CKD-Bone Mineral Disease and on Anemia of CKD. The third module is focused on enhancing equitable care to gender-diverse patients, with one chapter on gender-affirming care for transgender patients and a second chapter on unique situations in transgender and gender-diverse care. The book concludes with three interactive cases covering hot topics including the approach to menopause, the critical and evolving evaluation of kidney functioning, and drug-induced endocrine conditions.
Continuing education activities in PSAP cover the most recent published data (past 3–5 years) on a specific therapeutic area or patient-care problem. This content is provided as an electronic book (interactive PDF) with high-level updates designed, as appropriate to the topic, in three formats:
- Traditional review-style chapters
- Interactive cases (a series of webpages, each introduced by a sample case-based question)
- Recorded webcast (PowerPoint presentation; includes PDF of the transcribed narrative)
Every PSAP release comes in two full-color online formats: (1) interactive PDFs you can save to your desktop or print; and (2) an e-media version you can view on an e-reader, tablet, iOS or Android smart phone. Chapters in each release are also provided in audio form (MP3 files) as the popular PSAP Audio Companion. For an additional fee, a one-color softbound print book can be added to these formats and shipped to your address.
All PSAP chapters are fully referenced, with clickable hyperlinks to literature compilers such as PubMed. Other links provide ready access to clinical practice guidelines, official recommendations, and patient assessment tools. Graphic features focus on pivotal studies, patient care scenarios, and take-home points that can be readily integrated into clinical practice.
