Overview

These activities have been developed and designed for pharmacists who are planning on sitting for the Board of Pharmacy Specialties (BPS) examination in Critical Care Pharmacy. Created as a supplement to the 2019 Critical Care Pharmacy Preparatory Review and Recertification Course, the Updates Plus in Critical Care Pharmacy Webinar Recording will provide an overview of any major guidelines released between Spring 2019 and October 1, 2019.

ACPE credit expiration date: November 20, 2022

Target Audience

The target audience for Updates Plus in Critical Care Pharmacy is the pharmacist preparing for the spring administration of the BPS Critical Care Pharmacy specialty certification examination, for Board-certified Critical Care Pharmacy Pharmacists (BCCCPs) looking to earn recertification credit, and those seeking a review of the latest guidelines and therapeutic updates as they relate to the Critical Care Pharmacy examination content outline.

Learning Objectives

At the end of this activity participants will be able to:

  1. Evaluate recent clinical practice guideline recommendations relating to neuromuscular blockade in adult acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS) patients.
  2. Distinguish key differences between two landmark clinical trials evaluating early neuromuscular blockade in adult ARDS patients.
  3. Develop an evidence-based approach for neuromuscular blockade in adult ARDS patients.
  4. Explain the results of a pilot study looking at analgosedation at a single center in the US.
  5. Discuss the findings of a randomized study evaluating dexmedetomidine as the primary sedative as compared to usual sedation.
  6. Describe the results of a pilot study looking at readmission prevention with visitation to an ICU Recovery Center.
  7. Discuss the evidence supporting recent guideline updates for the management of Clostridioides difficile infection (CDI).
  8. Apply CDI guideline recommendations to critically ill patients with CDI.
  9. Review recent guideline recommendations for the initial management of patients with acute pancreatitis with emphasis on those presenting with severe illness.

ACPE The American College of Clinical Pharmacy is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education as a provider of continuing pharmacy education.

The 2019 Updates Plus in Critical Care Pharmacy Webinar will provide one session with 2.0 contact hours of continuing pharmacy education credit or 2.0 hours of BCCCP recertification credit.

Posttests may not be submitted more than one time. Partial credit is not available for this activity.

National Association of Boards of Pharmacy - CPE Monitor Service

Provided through the collaborative efforts of the National Association of Boards of Pharmacy (NABP), the Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education (ACPE), and ACPE-accredited providers, the CPE Monitor Service allows you to electronically keep track of continuing pharmacy education (CPE) credits from ACPE-accredited providers. ACPE-accredited providers, like ACCP, are responsible for transmitting this information to NABP to be stored in the CPE Monitor system. Statements of credit will be available at CPE Monitor, nabp.pharmacy/cpe-monitor-service/, within 2–3 business days after completion of this activity. BCCCP Credit
Recertification Credit

 

The posttest will be made available beginning Thursday, November 21, 2019. To be eligible to earn recertification credit, participants must purchase for the 2019 Updates Plus in Critical Care Pharmacy Webinar Recording and complete, submit and pass a Web-based posttest by May 20, 2020. Posttests may not be submitted more than one time. Partial credit is not available for this activity.

The passing point to earn BCCCP recertification credit is based on an expert analysis of the assessment items. Any posttest submitted before the BCCCP posttest deadline that meets this passing point will earn BCCCP recertification credits. These credits will be assigned as of the date of test submission and reported within 48 hours to BPS. For statements of recertification credit, visit www.bpsweb.org.
