ACCP 2024 Outstanding Chapter of the Year – Chapman University School of Pharmacy

Written by Written by: Ryan Kreill

To kick off the 2024 ACCP Annual Meeting, the Student Chapter Forum was held on Saturday morning, October 12, to discuss all the new happenings within ACCP. During the forum, the many opportunities ACCP offers students were demonstrated, such as the various student competitions, on-demand review services, and an introduction to this year’s National Student Network Advisory Committee. In addition, we had the opportunity to present the Outstanding Student Chapter Award to Chapman University School of Pharmacy!

Representatives of Chapman University’s local SCCP chapter, Marina Naiem, Katherine Ghattas, and Fatema Haider, shared with the audience their chapter’s accomplishments and tremendous efforts to improve patient care in their community and enrich their student members. Their presentation outlined their work in patient care and advocacy, clinical research, education, and interprofessionalism.

Chapman University boasts a tight-knit pharmacy class size with a student-to-faculty ratio of 6:1. Furthermore, Chapman’s SCCP chapter consists of participating members from almost one-third of the college’s student body. Every month, a meeting and activity is hosted for their members. There, pharmacists from specialties such as pediatrics, critical care, ambulatory care, and more are hosted to educate their students on the role of the pharmacist beyond the classroom and the opportunities they have to pursue after graduation. In addition, local PGY1 residents and residency directors have the opportunity to answer any and all questions across several residency panels.

Chapman University’s SCCP chapter places a heavy emphasis on community outreach and education. For example, their members held a vaccine clinic to provide routine and travel vaccines to patients in the community. In addition, Chapman student pharmacists have the opportunity to educate local high school students on the importance of Narcan and EpiPen administration and how to test and read blood glucose and pressure levels. Furthermore, members of the chapter have the chance to become certified in the American College of Surgeons Stop the Bleed program – a program that aims to educate on how to stop a bleed in a severely injured person.

Chapman University is an incredibly deserving winner of the 2024 Student Chapter of the Year Award! If you find any inspiration in Chapman University’s efforts, take their endeavors to your local student chapter to help enrich your community. Once again, congratulations to Chapman University School of Pharmacy!
